Monster is absolutely amazing. Note that the pacing is reeeaaally sloooow, but in my eyes that's a plus for this show. It allows the story to breathe, characters to be fleshed out. Very satisfying ending too, and overall one of the best crime thrillers I've ever seen, anime or not.
Thinking about it, that was poor wording on my part. It's not so much the setting that irks me, but rather the whole premise. I'm just not feeling the whole magicians can summon historical figures who will fight for them so they can have the holy grail thing. Seems really cheesy to me, and yet...

I started rewatching Kids on the Slope today, based on a sudden impulse to hear its opening song again, which I completely forgot but remembered was awesome.
I quickly remembered why I loved that song so much back when I first saw the show about 38 seconds in, and decided to watch it again...
Oh, not even halfway through then? Man, I'm jealous. So much good stuff yet to watch for you. I can honestly promise the show never starts to suck, and it's currently at episode 304 or so.
I dropped Michiko to Hatchin after the first episode because it didn't really click with me. Champloo has a lot of style, an awesome soundtrack and fun action scenes, though I found the overall storyline, when there was one, to be a little disappointing. The Beatbox Bandits episode alone is...
