All modern TV's support both 50 and 60hz. 60hz is better however so run with that. I do recommend the cable Spirit Mask linked to as it does improve the look by removing blur, although some textures look ugly when they aren't blurry. I don't think many if any Gamecube games supported widescreen at the time, so everything will look a little stretched on a modern TV, however most TVs allow you to change the aspect ration to 4:3 which was the standard for TV's back in ye olde days so try that before you buy an older TV.
