  • Cloth, Harp, Net and I believe Mitts aren't counted as items, rather they're equipment instead; just as the sword and shield are counted as equipment, so too are the cloth, harp, net and Mole Mitts. Quest items, if you will.
    It's a biconditional:

Items cannot be multiplied and useless; items cannot be few and useful. There's a right mark, and OoT through Wind Waker found that right mark. TP has too many items, SS has too few.
Read the link, this guy has played through the game and I'm certain he has; TAS runners don't joke around. SS doesn't appear to have more than eight items, and judging from players' reception who've actually played the game (not my own – I've never played), there aren't more than eight items. The bank in question sounds like a material bank, a mainstay in RPGs.
The Lens was useless for the most part, but Farore's is the save point feature that SS presents today. I can't count the times where I was going through a dungeon during my 3HC but had to save in case I was killed by the boss or some stupid enemy popups. FW was no where near useless. Nayru's is also useful in almost every circumstance in and out of hardcore play. I don't see an equivalent in SS besides possibly the Heart Medal, and even then the AI of enemies doesn't warrant a need for health regeneration. The Hammer was a slower variant to the Giant's Knife in almost all respects; useless it was not. Physical attacks have always been the forte of Zelda, however the fact that only eight items exist in SS means that it is dying for attention. Useless, overused puzzles are useless and overused. Oh no, SS DOES rely on 1:1 gameplay. Why else would the sword be overemphasized? The story behind it is just icing on the cake. I'm not the only one who thinks this way:

Read this, however you must realize that there is heavy potential for spoilers

I see what games have come out of the future of video gaming. Graphics and story seem to be this gen's strong point, and I could care less for either. I want gameplay. SS has great gameplay from the looks of things, but it doesn't have what I want. OoT in my mind is the best. Doesn't have to be that way for you, haha
Yes, Skyward Sword has the essence of Ocarina of Time, but no, SS has not topped OoT in my opinion. Lack of a magic meter, Zelda is still a plot device, overreliance on 1:1 gameplay and lack of item-related puzzles. I could go on and on with my fanboy mindset, lol.

Really, my mind has been completely blown by OoT, no other game can do that again because my head is already gone. That's how I pick favorites. :P
You're welcome, man. Must be awful hard keeping all those reviews updated.
The youth group at my church is going on a trip this weekend so I won't be able to reply until Sunday afternoon.
