I do love realistic/down to Earth characters, but also enjoy the meme/funny characters or cute characters and there’s no inbetween

But I don’t think real automatically means good though. Like, lots of AA characters are highly exaggerated but I love them

Characters don't need to be well written all the time
People treat Undertale like it has incredibly depthful relatable well written characters when for the most part they're trope/joke/farce characters
 
question for you darknut

lets use that sal monella guy as an example

he is a character that you're supposed to hate. and he does a good job at making you hate him. so he has effectively fulfilled the purpose of his character

with that in mind, would you acknowledge he is a good character for achieving the intended result of his writing
