The Elder's Trial is a location within The Minish Cap, found in Hyrule Town.[1]
Overview
The Elder's Trial is a mini-dungeon found beneath the Royal Hyrule Library. The dungeon is accessible after Link returns the third book, A History of Masks, to the Royal Hyrule Library. After he does so, he can climb to the second floor of the Library and exit the building. Using the vase, Link can shrink down to Minish size and climb up the bookshelf at the northwest part of the room. Link will eventually meet Librari, the Minish Elder, who is distinguishable by the giant feather pen that he holds.
Librari will ask Link to stand on the clover just below.[2] He will then open the secret mystery panel, which will cause Link to drop down below into his trial dungeon. He tasks Link with recovering the tool necessary to enter the Temple of Droplets.[3]
Within the trial, Link will need to use the Gust Jar to navigate across water. The trial has a few Sluggula as well as a new enemy on Link's quest, the Scissors Beetle. Just before the battle, there are six pots that Link can pickup, one of which contains a Fairy. When battling a Scissors Beetle, Link can wait until the enemy launches its mandibles at him. After sidestepping these attacks, he can deliver sword slashes. Alternatively, Link can just attack the enemies from the side, or use the Boomerang to stun them. After delivering seven slashes from the White Sword to each of the beetles, they will be defeated. Link can then open the treasure chest that appears to get the Flippers.
The trial dungeon has an exit at the south, and it will drop Link out into the stream, located just west of the Royal Hyrule Library.
