I just don't hold SP in any high regard.
Fair enough. I suppose, if I were to try to get you to hold them in high regard, I would appeal to your value on freedom of expression and speech. South Park more than anyone on television has been a champion of those values and been willing to put their heads on the line for it. Sorta similar to that french cartoon that caused the french terror attack (cannot remember the name)...I don't think you have to like them or find them in good taste, but I do think they deserve to be lauded for taking a stand on freedom of expression and pushing the envelope. So that shows of today could play in a much larger space.

It also could just be my love of renegades and punks hitting it big, but a lot about South Park in the early days feels like it never should have gotten the greenlight from anyone. I mean, it's iconic at this point, but it looked like ****, it wasn't friendly for the whole family, and the guys making it weren't hollywood money. I have the same feelings for a lot of the edgier artists out there, by all stretches of the imagination, their rise was even more miraculous than the usual rise. It's sorta like my own generation's equivalent of the Sex Pistols or Ramones.

I also don't necessarily agree with your characterization of them as attempting to appeal to teenage edgelords. In fact, I almost take that as a misreading because of their fanbase at this point and the show genre they helped spawn. It's just too smart too often for it being only teenage edgelord aimed. Why bother having strong writing like they do when you could just be very cruel and mean. <---that's Family Guy's forumla essentially.

There was also the time soon after 9/11 where the episode making fun of terrorists and Osama aired. If I'm not mistaken, it was one of the first to make fun of it at the time. It was kind of a pick-me-up for people and brought some humor back into what was a frightful time

A lot of people forget that before South Park, taking shots at religion as openly as they do was a huge no fly zone. Particularly in the cases of Scientology and Mormonism because if you think Christians don't have a sense of humor, you haven't seen the legal teams and smear campaigns they'll run.

Still, I gotta give it credit for pretty much trashing on everything in equal measure and never holding back.

Just because I'm some "Champion of FREE SPEECH!!!" doesn't mean I'm interested in every little thing everyone has to say :)

Whether they were trying to or not teens did comprise the bulk of their initial audience and I think it's obvious why the show appealed to them. I know. I was a teen at the time and I couldn't stop hearing about it if I tried (believe me, I wanted to - but most of it was from Family Guy. I think students knew that quoting SP was the best way to get yourself a quick suspension). And SP's kinda having a bit of trouble staying relevant today and doing a better job than most (while Family Guy/American Dad's ratings are tanking). I think this is because the teens who grew up with SP are still watching it, which says a lot about the shows staying power.

South Park has its merits, but I think it's kinda obnoxious. But that's like just my opinion, man :)

Big Bang Theory easily, I hated every aspect of this show. It was anti entertainment to me, I would rather stare at things than try watching this and way too many people hyped it as the greatest thing ever to appear. And I had to watch it numerous times too, at friend's houses it was on, then sitting in a room surrounded with people laughing their asses off at painfully unfunny tv...

There was this anime called "No Game No Life" and I watched because I heard good things about it, but I really didn't like it. I don't like being like one of those people who say "I don't get why people like this popular thing, I'm such a special snowflake", but really, what's so good about it? I thought it was awful.

Well, let's see, The Big Bang Theory, at first I didn't really mind it until I realized it's just "Look at these nerds being nerdy" with the occasional "Look at this chick being dumb".

I don't really care much about most reality tv, except those cooking shows like Hell's Kitchen or Masterchef. I like seeing Ramsay shout at people and all the food porn.

And not necessarily a show, but ... sports. In my country people are obsessed with soccer, and I'm like, good. I just fail to see the entertainment in watching 20 people run after a ball. Some I like more, like volleyball but still.

I think a lot of the shows mentioned here are definitely overrated, but I don't hate most of them. I was never really a fan of any kind of reality show, though. Just not my thing. And sometimes I can't believe people get on TV for whatever weird quirk their family has, but really they just do normal people stuff. Like 45 kids and counting. They do stuff like homework and go to the store. The only difference is that they have to spend my annual salary every month on food because there's so many of them. Why is this entertainment?

The walking dead. I watched the first season and had troubles getting through it. I watched the sec season halfway and then it became too much for me. I just don't like it. And many so called shows which are supposed to be very funny but the only time I can laugh about it, is when the end tune starts to play or when the credits roll up.

I felt the same way. I watched the first season and enjoyed it then I just gave up halfway through the second because it was boring me. Apparently if I persist it will get better but it's not something I intend to give another chance to anytime soon.

Same here. I got so tired and so bored with it. And if I read about all conspiracy and stuff going to happen, I'm not going to even plan to watch it any further anytime soon.

Ugh there have been so many but off the top of my head, the ones that stand out are:

One Tree Hill

Game of Thrones.

I watched the whole first season and nothing grabbed me. Now I don't particularly care if others like it but I'm just not interested in watching any more.
