A Link to the Past Need Help with Getting the 6th Diamond/maiden.

I looked up the walkthrough here but I can not get the Flute to work. Is there any specific way you have to use it. I've played it all over the light world but I am not getting transported as it is described. Anyone have any idea why. And I'm playing this, of course, on the wii, not the super nintendo so I doubt technical difficulties.

Have you gone to the weathercock in the center of Kakariko to awaken the bird in the first place? You are supposed to play the flute there which opens us the bird to be used. Then it will appear every time you play the flute in the overworld.

No I hadn't. I must have been thinking of a different game where I could already transport. Thank you for your help
