Despite claiming he would rather slash his wrists after finishing Spectre, which prompted most to believe there would be a new actor portraying Bond in the next film, Daniel Craig gives hope that he may yet return to the role. He recently claimed as long as he keeps getting kicks from playing Bond then he will keep on doing it and that it is the best Job in the world.

I wasn't a big fan when I first saw Casino Royale but he has definitely grown on me since then. The main reason I was not a fan was that I had a tough time not seeing Pierce Brosnan in the role anymore. There was also the fact that Bond seemed not to have much of a sense of humour anymore, however I am glad to see that has changed now and after four films with Craig I find I actually rather like his portrayal and would be up for his return. That being said I would also not mind seeing the role go to another actor.

What about you? Do you hope he will take on the role yet again or do you think it is time for someone else to give it a go?

I grew up on classic Bond, so I really just want Sean Connery to return. : P
Craig has been a great Bond, though. Spectre was one of my favorite films of the year, and Skyfall was even better. If be happy if they continued to use him, but if the series does switch actors, I won't be surprised. I think, though, that with the direction the series has taken, once Craig steps down from his position, the next film will likely have a long gap between, and reboot the series anew.

It really doesn't need another reboot in my eyes. Most films in the franchise are stand alone and are unaffected by the events of past films. It is only really the Craig ones that have had big connections. They could replace Craig and return to the standalone style of the past without giving an in movie explanation for the change of actor. I hope this is the case as I certainly wouldn't be interested in seeing another origin story for Bond.

I think Craig is an engaging actor and I really enjoy his films but it took me a while to warm up to him as Bond. Nothing is inherently wrong with it but Casino Royale saw a noticeable tonal and stylistic shift for the series I think was meant to make it more "grounded" for new audiences and this new flavor really didn't catch on or stand out. Craig didn't seem to slip into the role like other actors had and it wasn't until Skyfall that Craig hit his stride and I chalk that up to solid direction which made Skyfall a minor masterpiece overall (unfortunately imo Spectre was not as impressive).

Craig's tenure as Bond had a rocky start, hit some serious lows, peaked and then faltered again. Craig has nothing to do with this. I think Eon Productions is struggling to figure out what to do with the character and story and they haven't done a very good job making the best use of their star.

To me it really depends on who they get to replace him. But Craig isn't the issue. The license holders are just a tad clueless about what to do with their billion dollar movie franchise right now. As they're struggling to keep Bond relevant, it could very well be that a hiatus could be better for Bond (and whoever owns the rights) in the long run. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, after all. And a prolonged absence could make an opportunity to present Bond to a fresher audience later. That would of course put Craig out of the role. But better that or they start making desperate hasty decisions and the series tanks. The series is already being regarded as rather stale. Someone has to turn it around soon and Del Toro isn't going to be around to save them again!

Craig is one of the most enthusiastic Bond actors though. I heard he took charge of everything from the script to directing during Quantum's hellish development (as reflected in its poor performance and critical reception). He cares a great deal for the part and is deeply vested in it. Bond made Connery famous but Connery is also famous for vehemently swearing off the part forever (not once but twice!). And even though the role puts Craig through hell and he stresses over it he's really so keen on it as to put a lot of himself into it and keep coming back! Not just with reluctance but with gusto.

Bond would be lucky to have another like Craig.

While I like him as Bond, and don't think that he's been in "too many Bond films", I don't think he should be allowed to return after bashing the character so much, it may bleed into his performance, as he is clearly not very enthusiastic about the character anymore.
