Zelda: What We Learned
Posted on November 29 2011 by Legacy Staff
Over at ugo.com they’ve put together a list of eleven things they’ve learned from the Zelda series. These types of lists, while common, are always fun to look through. Classic staples and oddities in the Zelda series are mentioned, such as breaking into strangers’ homes and breaking their pots along with the peculiar habit of glass bottles to deflect magic. Of course, those murderous flocks of cuckoos are mentioned as well. It isn’t the most original of lists, but it’s enjoyable to read nonetheless. It can be found here. A few of my favorites are below.
You’re Probably The Chosen One
There’s been over 20 or so Zelda titles and, while some are sequels or prequels to other games, each game usually features a brand new Link who discovers that he is The Chosen One; the legendary hero that will use the Triforce to thwart evil. That’s a lot of reincarnation. You know what? Chances are there’s someone floating around your neighborhood who could be the new chosen one. Actually, chances are you are the chosen one. What are the odds?
It’s Dangerous To Go Alone
The world is a dangerous place. Going anywhere alone is a disaster waiting to happen, even for a legendary hero. How does one venture into the outside world without letting the fear consume them? While the famous quote is taken from the Old Man in the original Legend of Zelda, a character from every game usually warns Link of the dangers sure to come. What does Link do? He goes alone.
Oh yeah? It’s dangerous to go alone? Good. We want it to be dangerous. Now give us that sword and stay the hell out of our way.
There’s Only One Zelda
The number one thing we’ve taken from the Legend of Zelda series is that there’s only one Princess Zelda. She’s a metaphor for that one special girl in your life. You’re compelled to protect her, save her and chase after her no matter the circumstances. You’ll encounter a few Marins, Midnas and Ilias, but you’ll always be thinking of your Zelda.
It also helps if your Zelda is a smoking hot heiress.
I have an issue with that last one. There’s always a better girl than Zelda, in my opinion. What do you all think? Did you find the list entertaining? Can you think of any you’d add to it? Leave a comment and let us know!
