Zelda Universe – 25 Years in 25 Days: 2007

Another day, another year, another Zelda for the folks at Zelda Universe. Today’s article covers the three wildly different games that released in 2007 as well as some of the fan-sites’ activities.

2007 was just downwind of Twilight Princess’ debut on both the Nintendo Wii and its older cousin the GameCube, but that didn’t stop the Zelda steamroller from barreling through the year at full strength, for there were several Zelda games still awaiting us down the pike. And for those gamers who were pining for the older Zelda games and missing Ocarina of Time all the more, well, Nintendo was certainly willing to satisfy by giving them a game that was truly reminiscent of the older days of Zelda.


Ah, Phantom Hourglass. One of the best Zelda games that can be beaten in under ten hours without even trying. I remember enjoying this game considerably, but mostly because it was a Zelda game. As a DS game, it was great; as a Zelda game, it was… all right. Not one of the better portable Zelda titles, and definitely one of the weaker Zelda games overall. Although I loved the character of Linebeck and many gameplay portions of the game, I still felt this game could have been better. But again, that’s only because it’s held to the standards of a Zelda game.

As for Link’s Crossbow Training, I agree completely with the writer of the Zelda Universe article; it was the selling point of the Wii Zapper. While games like Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (and Darkside Chronicles) would later give more reason for owning a Zapper, Link’s Crossbow Training was what gave it its start. It was a fun little party game in and of itself and a nice distraction, but I don’t think my brother and I have touched it since the first week we got it.
