Last Thursday a new game was released for the iPhone and iPad in celebration of the 30th birthday of Pitfall! for the Atari 2600. The iOS app, also titled Pitfall! is heavily inspired by the popular game Temple Run which many of you may know of already. What does any of this have to do with Zelda? Well, being a fan of the Atari classic myself, I picked up the game to find that Activision had borrowed a tune from the Legend of Zelda for the NES. Whether or not this was an intentional motion towards the Zelda franchise or simply a design choice by a programmer, I’m not sure. Either way, hit the jump for a video on where this tune is buried!

If you’ve ever had anything to do with the original Legend of Zelda, you’ll immediately recognize the familiar “get item” jingle that sounds when you send a Tweet from the app. Pretty neat, eh? Additionally, if you jump three times in succession, on the third jump Harry does a flip, which is very similar to three jump flip pioneered in Super Mario 64. It is starting to seem the developers are fans of Nintendo, too.

Do you know other games that borrow from the Nintendo classics? Tell us in the comments!
