Zelda Theme Played on Glasses of Water

Video game music is no stranger to fan recreations. Whether it’s Smooth McGroove and his many acapella renditions of video game music, or something like “Wind Waker Unplugged,” video game music sees its share of creative re imaginings. Donal Hinely has put his own spin on the classic Zelda theme, playing with his hands on glasses of water.
He admits it’s a “difficult song,” but he pulls it off with skill and grace. Played outdoors to a modest audience, the sound carries nicely, the unique tone something hard to recreate with conventional instruments. Improvised instruments are always interesting to see and listen to. The afore-mentioned “Wind Waker Unplugged,” for instance, makes use of spoons to tap on glasses of water (for a noticeably different tone than Hinely’s glass-tapping) and a cooking sheet for some interesting sounds that add depth to the song.
