Zelda Makes Its Way Onto IGN’s Top 125 Nintendo Games List
Posted on September 25 2014 by Ethan Hunt
To celebrate Nintendo’s 125th anniversary as a company, IGN have released a special video showing their list of the top 125 Nintendo games ever made. As expected, Zelda is mentioned frequently in the video, making it into the list with almost every game in the series. Take the jump to see which Zelda games take which positions, and which games didn’t make the cut.
Here is the breakdown of every Zelda video that made it into the list:
- 116: Phantom Hourglass
- 102: Skyward Sword
- 89: Spirit Tracks
- 70: Oracle of Ages/Seasons
- 62: Twilight Princess
- 55: The Adventure of Link
- 42: A Link Between Worlds
- 41: Majora’s Mask
- 17: Wind Waker: Highlighted by Greg Miller as Nintendo at their storytelling best
- 14: Link’s Awakening
- 11: The Legend of Zelda
- 6: A Link to the Past
- 3: Ocarina of Time
As you can tell, Zelda is heavily apparent in the video, with only Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures and Minish Cap not getting places. The highest positions are somewhat predictable, with A Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time making it into the ten best games. Ocarina of Time was outstripped only by Super Metroid and the original Super Mario Bros.
Did the Zelda games get the positions they deserved? I personally am satisfied with the list, and sympathise with how hard it must be to rank such a large number of varying games. Whilst games such as Skyward Sword and Super Mario World should’ve scored higher in my opinion, I can understand how they ranked the games also on how they shaped the industry as a whole (for example, Super Mario Bros. defining the platforming genre and making gaming what it is today).
What are your top ten Nintendo games? Do you think the Zelda games were in an acceptable order? Let us know in the comments below!
