Zelda Fanart Spotlight – Ganon’s Fortress.

Today’s Fanart Spotlight is a digital painting called Ganon’s Fortress, created by Timothy Kelly. This artist understands the power of a dynamic composition, and that’s what really makes this picture stand out. There is a strong visual path throughout the piece; he uses vibrant saturated colors to move the eye to exactly where he wants the viewer’s attention to go. Death mountain is erupting in the background, violently shooting molten lava into the sky and down the sides of the volcano, creating a path downward towards the giant gorge that Ganon’s castle hovers above. The orange glow beautifully bounces off the sides of the dark canyon walls.
Link stands atop a cliff, looking down on the ominous scene. His tattered green tunic is a constrast to the warm colors that dominate the piece and makes him stand out as an opposing force. The master sword in his left hand literally glistens with hope for Hyrule in the face of the doom and destruction that surrounds the Hero of Time.
Remarkably, this picture was completed in 3 hours, and the artist even mentions that it was intended to be a quick two hour speed painting when he decided to push the idea further.
Timothy Kelly captures that intense atmosphere that was created around Ganon’s Tower and how the triforce of power had enabled Ganon to control every aspect Hyrule, even down to the terrain and weather.
