Zelda Dungeon Marathon 2014 Q&A Part One
Posted on July 24 2014 by Brian Frost
The Zelda Dungeon Marathon is right around the corner, but before all the action starts, we’d like you to get to know the people involved! We’ve compiled a list of 16 questions to ask the staff, and here are the first eight. Enjoy!
1) Who are you and what do you do for Dungeon Gaming?
Mases: I am Zelda Dungeon. I am video games.
Trevor: I’m a senior editor at GenGAME, manage live content for GenGAME.tv, and coordinate all aspects for the ZD Marathon stream.
Josh: I make walkthroughs and stuff and pretty much act like the coolest guy around (which is true by this point). I’m the guy you love to hate (and love).
Locke: I’m a 17th century English philosopher (or a boy genius intent on leading a world government) and I run the DGN Forums and the Zelda Dungeon Wiki.
Blake: I’m a member of the Zelda Dungeon Twitch Team. I do live streams on the ZD Twitch channel. I’m also a ZD Wiki editor.
Benny: I am part of the Twitch Team for GenGAME, and I write articles for the GenGAME website every once in a while. Trevor tells me how to do smart things.
2) Are you excited to attend this year’s Zelda Dungeon Marathon?
Mases: Yes
Trevor: I’m a bit nervous, but excited. I wish Kevin and Caleb could be here this year, but it will still be a blast with the inclusion of newcomers.
Josh: YES
Locke: Yes. I’m overdue for my first appearance.
Blake: Absolutely. I’ve been wanting to be a part of ZD and the marathon since the 2012 marathon.
Benny: I get to see Trevor IRL. This will be awkward.
3) What is your favorite Zelda game?
Mases: A Link to the Past still holds a special place in my heart.
Trevor: Twilight Princess…but A Link Between Worlds is a very close 2nd.
Blake: Tough question. It’s hard for me to choose between A Link To the Past and Wind Waker. They’re both such great games. Let’s just say that those are my favorite 2D/3D games respectively. 🙂
Josh: Wind Waker 4 lyfe. I do however have an insatiable longing for Twilight Princess most days.
Locke: The Wind Waker.
Benny: It’s a 5 way tie between Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past, Minish Cap, and Classic.
4) What games are you playing at this marathon?
Mases: The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, A Link to the Past, Link’s Awakening, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages, and Phantom Hourglass.
Blake: Legend of Zelda, Zelda II, A Link To the Past, Wind Waker HD, Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, Tetra’s Trackers and A Link Between Worlds. Maybe a couple others if we have time for them. I’ll also be doing a lot of production/donation reading. Sleep?? Never heard of that game. I prolly won’t be playing it.
Trevor: Twilight Princess, Spirit Tracks, Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, Tetra’s Trackers, and Super Video Switchboard. Contrary to Blake, I will be sleeping at some point every 24 hours.
Josh: The Wind Waker, A Link Between Worlds, Four Swords Adventures, Four Swords, and other random nonsense. In addition, I’m sure I’ll end up playing Skyward Sword. Somehow. Again. For the third year. In a row.
Locke: Skyward Sword and a few of the multiplayer games, …and compensating for my small list of games by maintaining a large presence in the chat. Look forward to some Locke vs. Nightbot shenanigans!
Benny: I will be playing The Minish Cap, Ocarina of Time, A Link to the Past, and maybe a few others.
5) What were your favorite moments from last year’s marathon?
Mases: Mosley running out of Arrows during the Dethl fight in Link’s Awakening, allowing me to comeback and win.
Trevor: The AlttP shenanigans race, Bastian nearly burning down the house, and the runback victory against Caleb in Twilight Princess.
Josh: I wholeheartedly enjoyed destroying Jordan’s chance of ever being a respected Wind Waker player (and plan to do the same with his replacement), along with the Link’s Awakening race, throwing Michelle off of a platform in Four Swords (which killed everyone), and the A Link to the Past race.
Locke: DethI. Waking up 5 minutes after the Like-Like incident.
Blake: The like-like incident, Mases’/Mosley’s neck-and-neck ending to Link’s Awakening, the entire A Link To the Past donation war, especially Mases getting sent to McDonald’s… twice… in a row. We need to top that this year. Oh, and burnt toast. Good times. 🙂
Benny: Seeing Mases dance Gangnam Style during A Link to the Past.
6) What are you most excited about happening at this year’s marathon?
Blake: Just being there and the races that I will be participating in. Specifically, Wind Waker HD, Zelda II and A Link To the Past.
Trevor: [Message Redacted]
Locke: A sub-16-hour Skyward Sword run with intelligent use of the shield. Oh, and being there. And of course being the one to show Josh how the shield is used.
Josh: Naturally, the Wind Waker race. The A Link Between Worlds race will be extremely interesting as well and will make me very nervous as no matter how much I practice I cannot ensure a win if chat hates me. Oh, and laughing when Locke is bad at shields.
7) Mases, how do you feel about kicking off the marathon with Phantom Hourglass for the 3rd year in a row?
Mases: There is nothing in the world I’d rather be doing.
8) Locke, since you are playing Skyward Sword this year, will you at least complete the game in less than 16 hours?
Locke: Yes. My two practice runs have been right around 10 hours. Count on an extra hour of getting distracted and dying. I will be performing just a few cool time-saving tricks. (No one likes the Scrapper escort, right?)
Be sure to check back tomorrow for the second half!
