Zelda Artist Exposition: Zaphk
Posted on November 09 2013 by LukeSaturn
Hello everyone and welcome again to another installment of Zelda Artist Exposition—the biweekly editorial series where I feature a Zelda fan artist whom I think deserves recognition and praise. As always, please feel free to comment if you have a suggestion for an artist to feature. I again want to thank HyliaBeilschmidt, who I last featured, for her help. Today’s versatile but unfortunately concise artist is Zaphk of deviantART.
The reason I call Zaphk concise is simply due to the Zelda section of her gallery. It is enjoyable but compared to her gallery as a whole it is rather small. However, she does have more than Glitcher so we are in luck.
Zaphk, whose real name is Ana Mendes, hails from Brazil and has been on deviantART for nine years, which is probably the one of the longest tenures for an account I have seen so far. In that time, she has uploaded forty-seven pieces of work, plus several that are in storage. She has almost two million page views and over forty-seven thousand watchers! Now I can tell you that is impressive. She has also received a Daily Deviation award.
Her style has evolved exponentially in her time on the website. Her more recent works are vastly different than the chibi style she tried in the thumbnail image or the softer image to the right. She has dabbled in chibi, bright and airy, and basic anime styles while her recent pieces are more three-dimensional and darker in nature. Her versatility lies not just with her style but also with her subject matter. Besides Zelda she has done other artwork over video games such as Pokemon, Diablo III, Portal, and Dota 2 and anime such as Dragon Ball Z and My Neighbor Totoro. While she has done quite a bit of fan art, she also has plenty of outstanding original work. Check out her great gallery and you will see what I am talking about.
Below is her most notable Zelda piece. While the coloring and shading is slightly different, the work below probably gives the best representation of her current style.
Thank you all for reading. I hope you enjoyed it.
