Wireless Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis Controllers Announced for Nintendo Switch Online Membership Expansion
Posted on September 23 2021 by David Lasby
In an exciting and somewhat shocking move, Nintendo announced via the September Direct that wireless versions of the Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis controllers will be available for purchase. Nintendo will be launching the Expansion Pack option for its Nintendo Switch Online membership, granting users access to classic N64 and SEGA games.
The Nintendo 64 and SEGA Genesis controllers are listed as $49.99 USD, with Nintendo promising more order information and availability announcements to come soon. What we do know, however, is that Nintendo Switch Online members will be able to pre-order two new controllers at a later date. Previously, Nintendo released the NES and SNES wireless controllers for Nintendo Switch Online. The retro controllers became instant collectors items and were very difficult to acquire for quite some time.
Zelda fans will be especially happy to note that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be a launch title with the new membership plan. Nintendo also mentioned that fans can look forward to the eventual inclusion of The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask on the service as well.
Tell us what you think! Are you excited by this announcement? Does the presence of Nintendo 64 and SEGA games make you more likely to subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online? Share your reactions in the comments below.
