Operation Moonfall was a campaign to bring Majora's Mask to the 3DS. Shortly after the release of Ocarina of Time 3D, the producer of The Legend of Zelda series, Eiji Aonuma, stated in an interview that a Majora's Mask remake was "not an utter impossibility" as long as the fans showed enough interest. Thus, Operation Moonfall was born. Operation Moonfall began in June 2011 and concluded in November 2014, following the announcement of Majora's Mask 3D.

Progression

Within five days of the release of the Majora's Mask 3D petition, it reached 10,000 signatures. In response to this, Nintendo of America replied that there had been no announcement of Majora's Mask for the 3DS but was interested in hearing what the fans found important. By fall 2012, the petition had reached over 50,000 signatures.

At the 25th Anniversary Symphony Concert in London, Aonuma told the Portuguese e-zine MyGames[1] that a Majora's Mask remake was still a possibility for the future. He reiterated this sentiment in a November interview with GamesRadar:

"I did hear that there's a website here that was launched in North America by some people that are hoping we'll release a 3D version of Majora's Mask. Of course I'm very flattered to hear that so many people are asking for that game, so I hope that at some point in the future hopefully, maybe, we'll be able to do something with it."

Trivia

  • Operation Moonfall's name is a reference to Operation Rainfall, a campaign to bring three RPGs to the Wii internationally.
