Ocarina of Time Walkthrough Chapter 9: Ice Cavern |
The Ice Cavern is one of three mini-dungeons in Ocarina of Time. It can be found in Zora's Fountain in the future.
Story
Spoiler Alert! This section describes a subject that is sensitive to plot development. |
The Ice Cavern is the place where Sheik teaches Link the Serenade of Water, the song that can warp him to Lake Hylia, more specifically to the Triforce Pedestal over the Water Temple.[1] The Iron Boots, an item needed to enter the Water Temple, are obtained here.
Gaining Entrance
Link can make his way to the Ice Cavern from any time after he becomes an adult. It is located in Zora's Fountain, and can be accessed by jumping across the various flat-topped icebergs.
Dungeon Overview
The Ice Cavern is - as its name suggests - a cold place mainly composed of ice. The dominating colors are therefore blue and white. The dungeon has only one level and a handful of small caverns (similar to rooms in other dungeons). Two caverns are never right next to each other, as there is always a small corridor between them. They branch out to each other, mostly from one central cavern.
Inside the Ice Cavern is a lot of Red Ice, sometimes with items inside (chests can also be found trapped inside). Blue Fire, which is used to melt Red Ice, is found here. This dungeon is the only place where Link can get Blue Fire for free, besides Ganon's Castle. Other sources are the potion shop, but this is not recommended, as the cost in the shop is 300 Rupees for a single bottle. There are icicles hanging from the roof that fall down when Link is under them, possibly hurting him.
Enemies
The following enemies are present in the mini-dungeon:
Pieces of Heart
Gold Skulltulas
#69: In the room with the Compass. From the first spinning blade room, use Blue Fire to melt the Red Ice and head east. The Gold Skulltula is hidden up on a higher pillar. Use the Hookshot to grab the token.
