Lightroots are locations found in the Depths of Tears of the Kingdom.
Tears of the Kingdom
In the Depths, no light from the Surface can penetrate down, making the area pitch black and difficult to navigate. However, Lightroots and other objects such as Brightbloom Seeds emit light, allowing Link to continue traversing. Upon reaching a Lightroot, Link can activate it, illuminating the immediate area. The brightness of each Lightroot varies and can be intensified by activating surrounding Lightroots. Standing under an activated Lightroot will also heal Link of any gloom damage he has accrued.
Each Lightroot corresponds with a Shrine of Light on the Surface. Furthermore, the name of each Lightroot is an anadrome of its accompanying shrine.
Upon activating all Lightroots, Link will receive a unique object known as the Dispelling Darkness Medal. It has no use, other than to show that Link has activated every Lightroot.
Trivia
- Almost all Lightroots are directly underneath corresponding Shrines on the Surface. However, there is an exception: the Kuhsagi Lightroot is not underneath the Igashuk Shrine.
- In fact, the Lightroots are not physically connected to the Shrines. This is seen with the Morok Shrine, which is on a platform disconnected from the Surface, yet still paired with the Korom Lightroot.
