Soulcalibur II is a fighting game developed by Namco. It is the third title in the Soul Series. It is the first to feature guest characters, the Nintendo GameCube version features Link.
Story
Soulcalibur II is set in Europe in 1590 AD, four years after the events of the first SoulCalibur game. Soul Edge is a pair of legendary longswords, which are highly valued and desired by warriors across the globe; unbeknownst to many, however, Soul Edge is cursed with evil power, feeding on the souls of both its wielder and any it strikes down. Soul Edge eventually came into possession of the dreaded Spanish pirate, Cervantes de Leon, who remained dormant in an abandoned Spanish port town while killing any who entered. Cervantes was eventually defeated by the Greek warrior Sophitia Alexandra and Japanese ninja Taki, destroying one of the Soul Edge blades - the remaining blade was claimed by a young German knight, Siegfried Schtauffen, after he defeated Cervantes' reanimated corpse. Soul Edge gradually possessed Siegfried over time, transforming him into a tyrant known as Nightmare.
Soul Edge created the "Evil Seed", a bright column of light that brought calamity and death to all of Europe. While Nightmare and his followers sought to strengthen Soul Edge further, he was defeated by a trio of young heroes: one of the heroes, Krita-Yuga, was really the sacred blade Soul Calibur.
The game features a Weapons Master mode, which is a stage-by-stage Story mode. It has occasional story sections, but for the most part is simply battles. The story is roughly the player has arrived to seek Soul Edge and travels across Europe, meeting a stranger who also seeks Soul Edge, who assists them. They part ways for a while and eventually find each other for the final showdown with Inferno, who wields Soul Edge.
Link seeks Soul Edge because of a Wizard who was causing chaos in Hyrule. After defeating the wizard, and finding that the disruptions did not cease, he traveled to Europe after learning that Soul Edge was the cause of it all.
