Hylian Shield

Found in a large room in the Hyrule Castle Lockup, it has 90 defense rating and 800 durability and looks exactly how you'd expect it to. The room it is found in contains a Stalnox which must be defeated before a chest appears with the shield inside. There is a Stone slab in the room stating that this was a test room for the Royal Guard, meaning a Hinox would need to be defeated in single combat for one to be indoctrinated into the Royal Guard.[1] If the shield breaks, Link can go to Tarrey Town to get a new one if the side quest From the Ground Up has been completed.

"The lid of a large soup pot. It smells vaguely of poultry broth... Yum! It can take quite a beating before breaking."
The Pot Lid is a shield found in Breath of the Wild. It has a base defense of 1, and is typically found in urbanized areas, such as the Hateno Village or Stables. One can be found on the Great Plateau, just outside of the Woodcutter's House. It has the lowest possible base defense out of any shield, and should only be used as a last resort, however, the durability is not to be disregarded.
Pot Lids are a makeshift shield, often used by Bokoblins in defense. They are the shield-counterparts to the Soup Ladle. As they are related to cooking, Pot Lids can also be seen bying used by the traveling chef Stamm, as well as the failed chef Moza.
Despite its namesake, Pot Lids are never actually seen being used in cooking to cover a pot. While it likely is the case, their in-game use is solely that have a shield.
Story
As part of The Champions' Ballad DLC, a story is told in Daruk's Training Journal where Link encounters an out of control Guardian. During a test, the Guardian lost control and started to shoot out deadly beams. Link grabbed a nearby Pot Lid and performed a Perfect Guard, deflecting the beam back at the Guardian, defeating it. This caught the eye of the King Rhoam, which led to Link being appointed the guard of Princess Zelda.[2]

The Wooden Shield is a recurring Shield in The Legend of Zelda series. They are typically the weakest shield and the first shield Link obtains.
Properties
Wooden Shields can block most attacks, but are highly susceptible to fire and leaves Link bereft of a shield. This is a weakness that only wooden shields possess, since all metal shields do not have a weakness that causes them to break. In Skyward Sword, they offer resistance to electricity to make up for their weakness to fire.
Appearances
The Legend of Zelda
The Wooden Shield is the shield Link starts with at the beginning of The Legend of Zelda. It is able to block basic attacks such as arrows and rocks, but cannot defend against magical attacks, like a Wizzrobe's beam. This shield cannot be eaten by Like Likes.
Ocarina of Time
- Main article: Deku Shield
While the Wooden Shield does not appear by name in Ocarina of Time, a Wooden shield does appear, called the Deku Shield. It is the first shield Link obtains in Ocarina of Time and can only be used while Link is a child. The shield can be purchased at the Kokiri Shop in Kokiri Forest for 40 Rupees. This shield will burn if it comes into contact with fire, but a replacement can be purchased at any time. The shield appears to be made from a piece of thick tree bark, the front of the shield is carved with a symbol representing the Kokiri's Emerald and is painted red.
Oracle of Seasons
In Oracle of Seasons, the Wooden Shield is the first shield Link obtains, and is indicated as the L-1 Shield. It can be purchased at the Horon Village Shop for 30 Rupees.[3] The shield is available right from the start of Link's quest.

Twilight Princess
The Wooden Shield from Twilight Princess is an optional item that can be purchased from the Malo Mart in Kakariko Village. This shield is larger than the Ordon Shield, but comes with the same weakness to fire. This shield can be purchased again if it is burnt. The design on the front resembles something like a bird and appears to be painted with white paint. This shield is generally considered a meaningless purchase due to the fact that it becomes available at the same time as the Hylian Shield, a far stronger and more preferable shield.
Ordon Shield
- Main article: Ordon Shield
Similarly to the Deku Shield from Ocarina of Time, the Ordon Shield is a Wooden shield that appears in Twilight Princess. Wolf Link steals it from Jaggle's House after Midna tells him to search the village for a Sword and Shield. It is a small plain brown shield, and has an Ordonian goat's head and horns patterned onto it.
This is the only time Link can obtain this shield, if it is burnt, it is lost forever.
Phantom Hourglass
The Wooden Shield is the only shield that is found in Phantom Hourglass. It can be purchased very early in the game at the cost of 50 Rupees from the Shop on Mercay Island.
Skyward Sword
Unlike previous games, Link's shield now has a durability meter. This means that after a certain number of hits it will break. However, if Link thrusts his shield just as the attack is coming at him, the shield will not take damage. As incentive for using this shield later in the game, it insulates Link from electricity-based attacks. This is the first shield obtainable in Skyward Sword. It is pathetically weak, and will break in just a few hits in its non-upgraded form.
This shield is obtainable by speaking with Instructor Owlan after Zelda falls out of the sky. Getting the Wooden Shield for free at the beginning makes Faron Woods much easier since Link does not have to save up rupees and purchase the shield himself. The Wooden Shield can also be purchased for 50 rupees in the Bazaar's Gear Shop.
The Wooden Shield can later be upgraded to the Banded Shield and the Braced Shield.
Breath of the Wild
"This lightweight, simple shield is ideal for less-experienced fighters. It can withstand light attacks, but blocking stronger blows is not recommended."
The Wooden Shield makes a return once more in Breath of the Wild, this time as a shield available early on in Link's quest, with a defense rating of just 2, it should only be used as a last resort. These shields can mainly be found in and around the Great Plateau, occasionally being wielded by Bokoblins.

The Boko Shield is a shield found in Breath of the Wild. It has a base defense of 3, and is the standard-issue shield for many Red Bokoblins in and around the Great Plateau. The aesthetic is very basic; being entirely wooden and of poor construction, signifying a low durability and defense rating. If this shield is brought to a flame, it will alight, so the player should take care.
The Boko Shield has the lowest durability of any shield in the game, and with a defense of power, only the Pot Lid and Wooden Shield are weaker. With these low statistics, the Boko Shield is a disposable weapon and should only ever be used if it is the only shield Link has in his inventory.
Appearance
The shield is a poorly made wooden shield, being made of a piece of tree bark off the ground. It is painted red with some white designs on the front. Knobs of wood that stick out of the bark are visible on the front of the shield. The back of the shield contains only a leather handhold.
Similar looking shields exist in the form of the Spiked Boko Shield and Dragonbone Boko Shield with bones and spikes attached to the shields, giving them higher strength and durability.

The shield is related to the much more powerful Dragonbone Boko Shield, which has a strength of 25, but its durability score of 8 is barely better than the Spiked Boko Shield.
Outside of the Great Plateau, Spiked Boko Sheilds can be seen wielded by Blue Bokoblin on the pathway that leads through the Dueling Peaks. Occasionally, the Spiked Boko Shield can be found wielded by a Stalkoblin, Black Bokoblin, or a Lizalfos.

It is similar in design to previous renditions of the Boko Shield and Spiked Boko Shield, but it is strengthened with animal bones that are secured to the wood for extra defense.
