Jovani is a character from Twilight Princess. He traded his soul to Poes for wealth and was turned to gold. He asks Link for help gathering Poe Souls to break his curse.
Twilight Princess
Link first meets Jovani while trapped in wolf form due to Zant's attack after Lakebed Temple. After trekking through the rafters of Telma's Bar at Louise's suggestion, Link finds himself within Jovani's House, where a Poe is present. Link defeats the Poe and speaks to Jovani, who explains that in a bid for wealth, he sold his soul to a dark creature.[1] Both his body and that of his cat Gengle were encased in gold and they are now unable to move, and he cannot visit his girlfriend.[2] He asks Link, who he calls "doggie", to defeat 20 Poes and take their souls in order to break his curse.[3] He also opens a passageway hidden within the chest in his room that leads to the sewers so that Link can leave.[4]
If Link later returns with 20 Poe Souls, Jovani will regain mobility and his cat will be freed.[5] He gives Link a bottle of Great Fairy's Tears as thanks.[6] However, his body remains encased in gold, so he does not want to be seen in his condition. He requests that Link find 40 more Poe Souls for a total of 60.[7] In Twilight Princess HD, he also gives him the Ghost Lantern at this point to aid in finding the remaining Poes.[8]
Once Link defeats all 60 Poes and brings their souls to Jovani, he becomes human again.[9] He offers Link 200 Rupees as compensation. Unfortunately, an attempt to reunite with his girlfriend leads him to discover she found a new man while he was a gold statue.[10] He spends every night crying in Telma's Bar thereafter.[11]
His cat, Gengle, happily returns to being the leader of all the city cats, and gives Link 200 Rupees every time he enters Jovani's House.[12] In Twilight Princess HD, he also gives Link the Rupee stamp.
