A Wooden Box, or Crate, is a recurring type of object in The Legend of Zelda series.
Wooden boxes are very common in Zelda games, and appear in dungeons and homes. They are used in many block sliding puzzles, and can be climbed on to reach a higher ledge. Some crates are breakable and drop various items like Arrows, Recovery Hearts, Rupees, Bombs, etc.

Ocarina of Time
In Ocarina of Time, Wooden Boxes are objects that Link can push, pull, or climb on top of. When initially traveling to Hyrule Castle, Link will need to push a box, climb on top of it, and then leap across a gap to enter the back secret entrance to the castle. Elsewhere in Hyrule, Link can push or pull wooden boxes to reveal secret passageways or items.
Crates are in Hyrule Castle Town Market, Kakariko Village, Hyrule Castle, Lon Lon Ranch, and Gerudo's Fortress. As a child, Link helps the Cucco Lady by finding her cuccos. One is inside a crate in Kakariko. In Gerudo's Fortress, Link can sneak through the fortress by hiding behind crates. Hyrule Castle, Link moves the crates to sneak in the hole. Lon Lon Ranch, in the building, when Link moves the crates around, there is a hole where on the other side, there is a Piece of Heart. The crates in the Market contain various consumable items.
Smaller wooden boxes also exist, which can be picked up and placed down by Link. Inside Jabu-Jabu's Belly, Link must use one to press down a switch after Ruto's capture.

In Echoes of Wisdom, Zelda can jump on top of Wooden Boxes using a table or trampoline as an intermediate, or by wearing the Frog Ring. Using the Tri Rod on a wooden box, she can learn the Wooden Box Echo. Zelda can then use the echo to create wooden boxes as she pleases.
