Majora's Mask Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about Majora's Mask? So do a lot of people... Below are some of the questions that we get most frequently and we've collected along with the answers. If you have any more, feel free to e-mail us and we'll add it to the list.
Question: How do I complete (Insert portion of the game)?
Answer: We wrote a Walkthrough for a reason. We have our traditional Majora's Mask Walkthrough, complete with pictures and maps, as well as a video walkthrough for the Nintendo 64 version of the game.
Question: What masks are required to beat the game?
Answer: Other than the three story-driven Transformation Masks: the Deku Mask, the Goron Mask, and Zora Mask, there are a few additional required masks to complete the game. This includes the following...
- Garo's Mask - To get into Ikana Canyon
- Captain's Hat - To get the Song of Storms
- Gibdo Mask - To get the Mirror Shield
Question: Why don't I get the full credits?
Answer: Depending on whom you help in the game, your credits will change. For every person you help, you will see a short clip during the credits of what happens to them.
Question: Is there a way to wear the Fierce Deity's Mask outside of a boss room?
Answer: Yes, at least in the Nintendo 64 version there is. While doing the Anju and Kafei quest, before you enter the room with Kafei, slap on a heavier Transformation Mask (Goron or Zora). When the controls switch to him, press Start and change the (C) Button with that mask to the Fierce Deity's Mask. When you regain control, you will transform. Of course, this only lasts a little while, and the game has a tendency to crash. I don't mess with many codes, cheats, hacks or the like, so I'm not well versed in all of the other goodies you can accomplish after this point.
Question: How come you don't have guides for a Glitched Run, Speed Run, or Three Day Challenge?
Answer: We like to just play through the game, legit and help gamers accordingly. We understand there is more of a niche market for these types of guides and we may eventually include them on the website, but they aren't a top priority.
Question: What's the difference between the various cartridges?
Answer: There are three different cartridges for Majora's Mask: gold cartridge, and the collector's edition with a hologram sticker on the front. Other than price and the possibility of a few bugs, there is no difference. There are a few gray cartridges lingering around, but it's unclear how these came to be. They could be refurbished cartridges that were released on a limited basis. There are some even rare cartridges that have Not For Resale printed on them, and these are quite rare.
Question: Why does the game keep freezing/lagging?
Answer: The game has a tendency to do this on the GameCube Collector's Edition disc. The reason for this is due to emulation issues and because the N64 uses 64 bit memory as opposed to a spinning disc and loads much faster. If playing on the Collector's Edition, be sure to save often. The Virtual Console version of the game runs much more smoothly.
Question: What are the differences between the original N64 version and the Nintendo 3DS version?
Answer: Outside of the obvious graphical enhancements, there are tons of differences. Most notably is the drastically different boss battles, but there are plenty of little changes as well, including the locations of certain items, Stray Fairy Locations, as well as a few additional side quests and locations.
