Skyward Sword Gratitude Crystals
Gratitude Crystals are items found in Skyward Sword. There are 80 to collect in total, and they can be found as individuals, hidden in locations during the night, as well as by completing side-quests in and around Skyloft. They can be shown to Batreaux, who will reward Link with valuable items, such as larger wallets, as well as a Piece of Heart.
Finding Kukiel

In order to begin collecting Gratitude Crystals, you must first complete the side-quest Finding Kukiel. This can be started as soon as you place the Ruby Tablet inside the Statue of the Goddess. After doing so, you can return to this guide to help you locate every crystal. Follow the link to get you started.
Individual Crystals
There are 15 individual Gratitude Crystals hidden around Skyloft and various islands in The Sky, and they can only be found during the night. You can sleep until night in any bed you can find, such as in your room at the Knight Academy, or in someone else's house in Skyloft. If you haven't found Kukiel or visited Batreaux yet, you cannot obtain any Gratitude Crystals, so see the relevant section to complete this first.
If you complete the Sandship and then speak with Batreaux, Fi will enable you to dowse for individual crystals. Unfortunately, you cannot use this feature to dowse for side-quests.
Listed below are the locations you can find each crystal, as well as maps showing the precise locations further down:

Location: Skyloft
Conditions: None
Gratitude Crystal #1: Head to the east side of Skyloft where you'll find some houses. This crystal is found behind a tree near the pumpkin patch here.

Conditions: None
Gratitude Crystal #2: Head through the Waterfall Cave until you reach the exit. Emerge back into the night where you'll find this crystal.
Location: Knight Academy
Conditions: None
Gratitude Crystal #5: Make your way over to the Knight Academy, and head to the upstairs area. The crystal is found in a plant in the corner by the upper exit.

Gratitude Crystal #6: Also inside the Knight Academy, check the desk in Link's room to snag a crystal.
Location: Sparring Hall
Conditions: Acquire the Beetle
Gratitude Crystal #7: Found in the Sparring Hall up in the rafters. Use the Beetle to grab it.

Conditions: None
Gratitude Crystal #8: Just south of the Knight Academy, look off to west and you'll see vines leading down to a chunk of land. Jump down to find the crystal.

Gratitude Crystal #10: Found around the back side of the Light Tower in the Plaza.
Location: Pumpkin Landing
Conditions: None
Gratitude Crystal #11: Fly to Pumpkin Landing and sleep in one of the beds in the Lumpy Pumpkin to make it night. Run upstairs to find this crystal on the counter.

Conditions: None
Gratitude Crystal #12: Also at Pumpkin Landing, this one is outside. Go to the huge pumpkin patch and (when facing it) turn right. Follow the ramp that leads down to the storage shed where a crystal awaits you.
Location: Beedle's Island
Conditions: Acquire the Beetle
Gratitude Crystal #13: This crystal requires you to enter Beedle's Air Shop during the day, then sleep in his bed until night. This will take you to Beedle's Island at night. Exit the Air Shop and look up to see a crystal floating above one of the propellers, which you can use the Beetle to retrieve.

Conditions: Acquire the Double Clawshots
Gratitude Crystal #14: On the west side of Skyloft is a series of floating islands (one of which has the big waterfall). Using the Double Clawshots, you can latch onto the vines hanging from the edges to get up to the big island. The crystal is at the mouth of the waterfall, so you can simply walk into it.
Alternatively, you can get it earlier while on the ground below by using the Tough Beetle (which can fly further than the regular one).

Conditions: Acquire the Double Clawshots
Gratitude Crystal #15: You can sleep in any bed in Skyloft to make it night. Run to the Knight Academy and shimmy along the south side to reach the vines leading on top of the Academy itself. There's a chimney here for venting moist air from the bath. Grapple onto the target and drop down, then crawl through the obvious passage which leads to Zelda's room in the Academy. At night, there's a Gratitude Crystal here on the floor.

Crystal Side-Quests
The remaining 60 Gratitude Crystals can be obtained by completing side-quests for different people in Skyloft, as well as elsewhere in the Sky. Below is a list of each side-quest which rewards Gratitude Crystals. Please note that these side-quests become available at different points at the game, so you'll need to progress in the story to complete them all:

Batreaux's Rewards
If you return to Batreaux after you've found some Gratitude Crystals, he will reward you depending on how many you have.
After you've collected 30 Gratitude Crystals, a chest will appear to one side containing the Cursed Medal when you speak with Batreaux. This optional item goes in your Adventure Pouch and makes you unable to open it (you can't use shields or bottles). You can only take it out of your inventory by speaking with Peatrice at the Item Check in the Bazaar.
