A White Wolfos is a variation of the standard Wolfos. This variety is typically found in snowy areas; this is really the only difference between the two types. This enemy has made an appearance in four titles in The Legend of Zelda series, starting with Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. They also appeared in two more recent games: Twilight Princess and Spirit Tracks.
Appearances
Ocarina of Time
White Wolfos |
Like the standard Wolfos, White Wolfos make their inaugural appearance in Ocarina of Time. However, they are extremely rare, with there being only three found within the entire game, only one of which is encountered during the main quest. One is found in the Ice Cavern guarding the Iron Boots, while the other two are both found in the Gerudo Training Ground.
White Wolfos behave very similarly to their standard cousins. In order to defeat them, Link has to attack their back side. The easiest way to do this is by waiting until they begin to attack, and then block with the Hylian Shield. After performing its attack, the White Wolfos stops with its back facing Link, giving him a perfect time to attack. Jump Attacks work best here. If Link is hit by a White Wolfos, they deal half a heart of damage.
Majora's Mask
It's a White Wolfos. |
Like many enemies from Ocarina of Time, White Wolfos make their second appearance of the series in Majora's Mask. However, they are much more common in this game, making them a bigger part of the game then they were in Ocarina of Time. They can be found all over the Snowhead region, appearing on one of the Twin Islands in the winter as well as within the Snowhead Temple.
White Wolfos have a bit more stamina in this game, requiring more hits to kill. In addition, they also deal more damage: one full heart for every hit, double the damage dealt in Ocarina of Time. However, the strategy to defeat them remains largely the same: dodge its attack, and then slash at the enemy's tail.
Twilight Princess
White Wolfos don't appear in the series again until Twilight Princess, six years after the release of Majora's Mask. In this game, White Wolfos are much different, having a different appearance and attacking differently. They appear to have a more distinct glow and silhouette in this game. One thing remains the same, however: they are still found in snowy areas. As such, White Wolfos are only found within Snowpeak and the Snowpeak Ruins.
White Wolfos attack by running at Link and then jumping onto him. If they are successful, they deal half a heart of damage. The best way to fight this enemy is to not; they often appear in groups, so it can be time-consuming and unnecessary trying to defeat them all. They can be avoided simply by running past them. In this way, White Wolfos are more of an obstacle in this game than an enemy. Furthermore, Link can easily kill them with a few hits from his Master Sword, if he desires.
Spirit Tracks
The White Wolfos makes its most recent appearance in Spirit Tracks. Like all of its predecessors, the White Wolfos in this game appears in snowy areas, which in Spirit Tracks mean it can be found all over the Snow Realm. Specifically, White Wolfos can be found in the Snow Sanctuary, Snow Temple, and Wellspring Station. One difference this version has are its eyes: they appear to be yellow, different from the usual red.
In these aforementioned areas, White Wolfos pop out of the snow if Link walks past a certain area. Once they have appeared, they attempt to dash into Link, which, if successful, causes half a heart of damage. The best and easiest way to dispatch these enemies is with a simple Spin Attack, which kills a White Wolfos in one attack. It also can kill multiple enemies at once, making it the easiest way to kill a group of White Wolfos.
