Goponga Flowers are recurring enemies in The Legend of Zelda series. They are often found in swampy areas and shallow waters.
Appearances
Link's Awakening
The Goponga Flower is one of the plants living in Goponga Swamp, around the mid-west part of Koholint Island. These flowers do nothing other than block Link's path. Even though they have no real attacks, these plants are dangerous and will hurt Link if he touches them. If Link has BowWow with him, however, he will eat the plants just like he attacks any other enemy. Using BowWow is the only way for Link to make his way past them early in the game.
Once Link has the Level 2 Sword, a spin attack will defeat the Goponga Flower. The Magic Rod, Boomerang, and Hookshot are useful weapons against these obstacles as well. There also exists a bigger variation of Goponga Flower known as the Giant Goponga Flower, which can fire fireballs at Link from a distance.
Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages
Goponga Flowers are found in Spool Swamp in Holodrum. Like in Link's Awakening, these flowers are rooted to the ground, so they cannot move. The only difference is they can fire fireballs at Link from a distance and try to hit him with them. They cannot be defeated by normal means, so Link should not waste his time attempting to attack them with his sword. The easiest way for Link to defeat them is by throwing his Boomerang or use Ember Seeds at them, which will only take one hit.
Only one Goponga Flower appears in Labrynna. This flower is found taking root in Jabu-Jabu's Belly and it acts the same as it does in Oracle of Seasons.
