OoT 3D Language stuff
Greetings! As you may or may not have noticed, I have been using my PAL copy of OoT 3D to aquire item descriptions in other languages and posting them in my sandbox. Is this something you would be interested in having on the wiki properly, or shall I simply keep it in my sandbox? I want to produce a text dump, but feel at the moment it would be too much to do and very time-consuming. (Especially in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian!)
Regards, Curly 15:29, October 29, 2011 (CDT)
- Alright, I made a template for it. Here's an example using your Spirit Tracks Treasure Table:
Language | Name |
---|---|
日本語 | Template:Languages/JPN |
English | Template:Languages/ENG |
Française | Template:Languages/FRA |
Español | Template:Languages/ESP |
Deutsch | Template:Languages/DEU |
- I may have to tweak it a little bit, and there's an organization issue I thought of: This only handles descriptions from one game, so putting this at the bottom of a page for something that appeared in several games might not make sense. We could dump all the games' descriptions in the description attribute with <br>s, unless you have any better ideas. << Locke(T·C) >> 13:07, November 1, 2011 (CDT)
- That template looks pretty good. What's <br>s? I was thinking we could have different tables for different games, e.g. for the Hookshot, you'd have ALttP table, OoT table, MM table etc. Curly 13:38, November 1, 2011 (CDT)
Formatting
Hey Locke. I have a question. When I edit articles (Deku Scrub, for instance), I use H1 for different topics (Appearances, trivia, gallery) because that's how it is on the Deku Baba page. On the main page it says to follow that page as an example for formatting, so how come it's always changed to H2? -- TSterTheGreat (Talk) 21:21, December 5, 2011 (CST)
- Actually it should be H2 as the highest heading. H1 is buggy, breaks some our scripts, and isn't the right size. It's too big. If you see H1 where it should be H2, change it to H2.— Emma (Talk) 21:54, December 5, 2011 (CST)
- Alright, thanks. I'll be sure to do that from now on - TSterTheGreat (Talk) 21:58, December 5, 2011 (CST)
Focus note
Hey Locke, recently I noticed you placed a focus note on the goron mines page. I basically built that page and I am always trying to update it, and thus am always revisiting it. I dont understand what the focus note means. Appropriate page? Merging? Could you please shed some light on what you are trying to say to the editors of the page? the preceding unsigned post by Fused shadows (contribs) at 10:15, March 4, 2012 (UTC)
- Well, the biggest thing is that I don't think it's appropriate to have detailed boss strategies on the Dungeon page; those should go on the Boss's page. I say "Focus" because the article should be focused on the dungeon itself. Obviously the boss, mini-boss, items, etc. are part of the dungeon, but they should be described as they relate to the dungeon, and the specifics should be left to their respective pages (using the Main template). I've also noticed that some dungeon pages (besides the ones you've been working on) are becoming very walkthrough-ish, which also isn't appropriate (we have walkthroughs on the site).
- As another example, I don't think it's necessary to explain what a small key is for each dungeon - there's already a whole page for that. I guess it might be okay to note how many there are, or anything unique about them (e.g. in OoT Fire Temple they're found by freeing Gorons), though I almost think it would be best to just list them, like the enemies. So, in short, I'd like to cut down on repetitiveness. If something is dealt with on another article, then only the relevant aspects should be touched upon. << Locke(T·C) >> 16:23, March 4, 2012 (CST)
- Oh yeah, also, try not to link to redirect pages, just like with disambiguation pages. Always link straight to the appropriate article. If you want a different name to appear, use the pipe notation. Thanks! << Locke(T·C) >> 16:26, March 4, 2012 (CST)
- I see what your saying, it makes complete sense. My only question to you now is that of the dungeons pages formatting. I plan on continuing editing the twilight princess dungeon pages, so how do you think would be the best way to format the pages? I personally like the current format, minus of course the extra details that I plan on erasing. Thanks for your help. User:Fused shadows/sig 16:41, March 13, 2012
- Hey Locke, fused_shadows here again. I recently went back into the Goron Mines page and tried to update it based on what you have told me. Some feedback on whether it is now perfectly detailed, still too detailed, or now too little detailed, or anything else you have liked or disliked that i changed or didnt change. I am basically looking for the go ahead to update the other dungeon pages like i recently updated the goron mines page. Thanks. User:Fused shadows/sig 20:40, March 21, 2012 (EST)
- I inserted some comments to the Dangoro and Fyrus sections that you can view by editing the section or viewing the page history and checking the differences for my edits. Normally, I'd love to fix it up to how I'd like it as a demonstration, but I'm afraid that I can't give it that much time and I'd end up rushing it and losing much of the content. << Locke(T·C) >> 22:25, March 21, 2012 (CDT)

- What do you need help with? Also, which account/name do you want to use? Because we only allow one... << Locke(T·C) >> 02:37, March 31, 2012 (CDT)
- Sorry!!!! I didn't know. I would like this log. I need help with making the tab things. Visit my sandbox to see my ideas: User sandbox: Midna. If you want to you can also look at Midna. I put some of my ideas on my page. Midna (Talk) 16:11, March 31, 2012 (CDT)
- Eventually I'll try to put up some documentation as a guide, but for now here's a quick explanation: Tabs are set up in the form:
{{TabSettings|Title}} <div class="tab"> {{Tab|1|Title}} {{Tab|2|Title}} ... </div><div class="tabcontent"> {{TabContent|1|{{n}} Content }} {{TabContent|2|{{n}} Content }} ... </div>
← "Title" here is the name of the set of tabs. It doesn't show up anywhere, but each set of tabs on a page has to have a different name.
The second section is the list of tabs that appear across the top. "Title" is what appears on the tab. The numbers match up with the TabContent numbers.
Third, the content is laid out. Usually we use Galleries here. See the documentation for Template:Gallery. Each TabContent should have its own gallery.
Thanks a bunch!!!!! I might edit the Twilight Princess page today, so can you see if I did it right??? I will try in User sandbox: Midna first, so I can see if it works. I also made some edits to the locations page. I added some pictures.Midna (Talk) 10:23, April 1, 2012 (CDT)
- For titles, I like to use the game abbreviation followed by what the category is, so "TPEnemies", "LoZCharacters", etc. The other thing is that this should be done on the category page, not the game page. Once it's finished on the category page (and only when it's finished - we want the game page to look nice, without half-done projects on it), it is transcluded on the game page with, for example, {{Category:Twilight Princess Enemies}}. << Locke(T·C) >> 00:58, April 2, 2012 (CDT)
Thanks!!! Midna (Talk) 07:51, April 2, 2012 (CDT)
I need help with getting the different pictures in their pages.
If you could help, please do. Midna (Talk) 08:02, April 2, 2012 (CDT)
- (First off, you missed a few end braces and a Gallery/Bottom. I fixed them above.) What exactly do you mean by getting pictures in their pages? Adding them to the gallery? You've already done that correctly for a few of them. << Locke(T·C) >> 15:45, April 2, 2012 (CDT)
I ment getting the gallery things on the tabs, like a Poe on tab 1 not all of them. Thanks for helping me!!!! Midna (Talk) 17:52, April 2, 2012 (CDT)
Problems
I saw a problem on the Category:Twilight Princess Items. There are two Ball and chain pages. They are both different. I thought I would let you know because I don't know how to delete a page.Midna (Talk) 18:46, March 31, 2012 (CDT)

How do you edit category pages? Midna (Talk) 14:17, April 5, 2012 (CDT)
Citing
Hello Locke, On the page Navi I added a few things on the trivia section. I looked at it again and it said something like citing required. But I don't know how to cite and the source was in a magazine (Official Nintendo Magazine). Thank you, --Noop3451 14:37, April 23, 2012 (CDT)Noop3451
- For development-related trivia, the best sources are often developer interviews. For these, we look in Category:Interviews. I don't see the ONM one you're referring to in that category (it doesn't have too many interviews yet), so it will have to be added. Can you tell me which issue it is? Or perhaps find a link to a transcription? In the mean time, I think there's an Iwata Asks interview which covers this topic. I'll see if I can find that. Once we have a source, then I can demonstrate how to use it. << Locke(T·C) >> 15:59, April 23, 2012 (CDT)
- Okay, we don't actually have the Iwata Asks interview on the wiki yet, but I went ahead and used it as a source so you could see how it's done. If you need an interview that's not on the wiki, please let me know and/or create a page using the established title conventions and at least put a link to the interview and add it to the "Needed Interviews" category. Of course, you could always take the extra step and add the full interview! << Locke(T·C) >> 16:16, April 23, 2012 (CDT)
- Okay thank you, and if the issue number helps it was Issue 72, September 2011.

Interview formatting
Hey Locke thanks with the citing help earlier and that really got me into doing interview things. I finished the twilight princess part 1 Iwata Asks formatting... well I think so... so can you check it and stuff and I will continue with the formatting and completing interviews. Yours Truly, Noop3451 (Talk|Contribs|Uplds) 12:49, May 11, 2012 (CDT)
- Looks great! I really appreciate your help. If you're reading or skimming through them, you can add internal links where applicable. I went through and added a few to that TP interview. And after the formatting and everything is all done, you can go ahead and remove that IncInterview template at the top and add the appropriate categories at the bottom, or you can leave those for me to do. Iwata Asks interviews also get the IwataAsksFooter template at the bottom, above the categories. << Locke(T·C) >> 00:37, May 12, 2012 (CDT)
- Thanks, I will keep doing the interview things, I am going to try to finish part 1 of the OoT interview hopefully before the weekend.
- P.S do you mind if I used the coding for your signature, if you don't like it I will delete it.

Sorry I don't think I could do much on the wiki until the coming Friday because I've got SATs this week.
Yours truly,Noop3451 (Talk|Contribs|Uplds) 03:13, May 12, 2012 (CDT)
Hey Locke, I found that some Interviews have the template {{Interview|A| while others have {{Interview|Q|. Why is there two and what does each mean? P.S sorry about the over load of Talks Yours Truly,Noop3451 (Talk|Contribs|Uplds) 14:57, May 12, 2012 (CDT)
- I use Interview/Q for questions, and Interview/A for answers. That is, Interview/Q is for reporters and such, while Interview/A is for developers. Iwata Asks is a special case where I use Interview/A for questions as well, since those 'interviews' are structured in more of a roundtable discussion manner, where Iwata chimes in with commentary as well. (And he works at Nintendo too; he's not a reporter.)
The reason I do this is because it enforces consistency and it's much easier to change the formatting of the interviews - questions and answers separately - by modifying one or two templates than by changing the coding of every single page. << Locke(T·C) >> 16:12, May 12, 2012 (CDT)
Hi, I just finished the Twilight princess part 2 Iwata asks interview. Do you mind if you check it. Thanks Locke, you're the best!

Templates
Hi Locke, I saw the Treasure Infobox template but it is only built for Skyward Sword. I think there should be another one for spirit tracks and phantom hourglass. This is one I did for Demon Fossil ->
