Gralens is a character found in Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom

Gralens is the head of the Monster-Control Crew and runs the team along with its members, Flaxel, Landi, and Derbos. Their primary mission is to hunt down monsters that have been running around since the Upheaval. When Link first arrives at Lookout Landing, Gralens is excited to see him, but mentions he should report to Purah immediately.[1][2][3]

After speaking with Purah, Gralens mentions that the Monster-Control Crew is taking a break from usual operations to join the search for Princess Zelda.[4] They are tasked with searching Hyrule Castle, as this was the last place anybody had contact with Princess Zelda. Purah has instructed the crew to begin the search there.[5][6]

After Link and Captain Hoz witness Princess Zelda at Hyrule Castle ascend into the sky and vanish, Link can share this information with Gralens. As bizarre as it sounds, this information causes him to resume the Monster-Control Crew's duties.[7] He will send out Flaxel's Squad to the south of Hyrule, in Faron. There are pirates on the coast who are running rampant and he tasks Flaxel's Squad to put an end to them.[8]

Gralens can be found in the Emergency Shelter below Lookout Landing. He has sent all three of his monster-control crew squads on expeditions.[9][10]

While the monster-control crew has some volunteers that are accustomed to battle, many are not.[11] He advises Link to help out whenever he runs into one of the squads.[12]

Gralens will offer Link tips on where the various squads are currently located.[13][14] Hoz's Squad is hunting monsters in Hyrule Field, just south of Lookout Landing.[15] Toren's Squad is on the north side of Death Mountain, investigating a cave at Lake Darman.[16] Flaxel's Squad is hunting monsters in Faron. They are fighting pirates on the Menoat River, just south of Lake Hylia and west of Highland Stable.[17]

After Hoz's Squad is victorious at Hyrule Field, Gralens mentions they have moved on to Necluda. They plan to launch an attack on the monsters at Fort Hateno.[18]

Gralens will later tell Link that there have been reports of some very large monsters in the area. Monsters who are so strong that the squad members are ill-equipped to fight them. Rather than engaging them, they are gathering intelligence and warning nearby residents. Gralens thinks Link is qualified to face them in battle, but realizes Link might have his hands full with other tasks.[19]

Link can continue to ask Gralens about the large monsters.[20] Gralens mentions a Stone Talus that was spotted by the survery team in Akkala.[21] He also mentions a Hinox, which was spotted by some travlers in the Trilby Plain, near the Woodland Stable.[22] Lastly, he mentions that a Molduga was discovered in the East Barrens of the Gerudo Desert.[23]

Speaks to Gralens about each of these three monsters will begin three Side Quests, WANTED: Stone Talus, WANTED: Hinox, and WANTED: Molduga. When Link defeats each of the three monsters, Gralens will reward him with a Silver Rupee.[24][25]

  1. "I'm right in the middle of giving out orders. This group's going to join the search for Princess Zelda. So whatever you need, it's got to wait until... What?! Is that really you? Link, you've returned! I've got to say that it's a relief to see that you're safe. I'm Gralens, head of the monster-control crew. But we can talk more later. You need to report in to Purah immediately. She has to know you're back." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  2. "Your interest in our work honors us all. But please, go tell Purah you're safe." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  3. "Link, my apologies. Your interest in our work honors us, but I'm busy giving orders to this group right now. Please, let Purah know you're safe. She's in the building with the telescope." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  4. "I'm glad you've returned safely, but I am gravely concerned about the princess. I'm holding out hope that the monster-control crew brings back good news. They're searching the castle for her now." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  5. "Purah has given us orders to search thoroughly around Hyrule Castle. That's where we last had contact with Princess Zelda, so it seems the best starting point in the search. Anyway, Purah enlisted our monster-control crew to help out, so that's where our efforts are currently focused." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  6. "Yes, it's a group of volunteers who've joined together to defend the people from the onslaught of monsters. However, Purah has asked for our aid with a more pressing matter now. She's asked us to help in searching the castle. I was just debating whether or not to add reinforcements. But if you're joining the search, Link, I can keep our forces on standby. If you had to the castle, you'll run into Hoz and the advance party, who will probably be just as surprised to see you." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  7. "I...see! Princess Zelda ascended into the sky above Hyrule Castle and then vanished? What a very strange thing... All the same, it's a relief to hear she's alive. Well then. With that information, the monster-control crew will resume our original duty of subduing the monsters. Of course, if we can come across any info regarding the princess, I will report it immediately to Purah. I've assembled strategies and pertinent information at our headquarters in the emergency shelter. There you'll find folks with an intimate understanding of Hyrule's geography, as well. If any of that is relevant to you, I encourage you to take the time to stop by." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  8. "All right, everyone. It's time to move out! Flaxel's squad! For now, I'm positioning you in the south of Hyrule. Proceed to Faron. There are pirates running rampant in that area, so sweep the coast thoroughly. We're counting on you!" — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  9. "Burning the candle at both ends, hm, Link? I appreciate you taking the time to visit the monster-control HQ. Recently, Purah asked that we suspend our involvement in the search for Princess Zelda. So we've resumed our primary mission to hunt down the monsters that have been running rampant since the Upheaval. All three squads are out on expeditions at the moment. They've been sharing updates with us though." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  10. "Hoz's squad, Toren's squad, and Flaxel's squad of the monster-control crew are taking down monsters all across Hyrule." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  11. "The monster-control crew is made up of everyday folks who've volunteered to protect the people from monsters. Some are accustomed to battle, while others...not so much. Receiving support from you out in the field would do wonders for their morale, Link." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  12. "I'm told that your skill in swordplay is unmatched. If you ever stumble into one of our squads during your travels, please lend your legendary skills to our plight!" — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  13. "Want to know the whereabouts of any other squads?" — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  14. "The squads are moving out on monsters actively now! I've got current info on their whereabouts, if you're curious." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  15. "Hoz's squad is hunting monsters in Hyrule Field, to the south of Lookout Landing. If you see them there, do me a favor and help them out, please." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  16. "Toren's squad is on the north side of Death Mountain in Eldin. They're heading for a cave discovered at Lake Darman, which used to be a lava lake but has since stopped flowing. They're taking out the monsters nesting in the cave, so if you see them there, do me a favor and help them out, please." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  17. "Flaxel's squad is hunting monsters in Faron to the south. They're aiming to subdue the pirate ship on the Menoat River to the south of Lake Hylia. Which is west of Highland Stable. If you see them there, do me a favor and help them out, please." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  18. "Hoz's squad found victory at Hyrule Field and moved on to hunt monsters in Necluda. They plan to launch an attack on the monsters maintaining a barrier at Fort Hateno, due east of Dueling Peaks Stable If you see them there, do me a favor and help them out, please." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  19. "Hello, and thank you for your hard work, Link! Link! You've got great timing! Folks working for the monster-control crew have been reporting frequent appearances of some very large monsters. Our noncombatant squad members are ill-equipped to take on such foes. Really, it's out of the question. Instead, they're helping by gathering intel and warning residents in the areas where the beasts have been spotted. With such ominous beasts as these, I can think of nobody better qualified than you to face them in battle. That said... I'm sure you've got your hands full with other tasks. Perhaps it's best for you to continue on without adding to your burdens..." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  20. "I've heard tell about a number of large monsters." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  21. "Our comrades out on a survey in Akkala reported an attack by a Talus! A Talus looks like a giant, mobile pile of angry rocks—hard to miss. With our current weapons, we wouldn't be able to put a scratch on that thing..." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  22. "Recently there were some travelers passing by Trilby Plain near Woodland Stable in northeast Hyrule Field. Their intel confirmed a sighting of a Hinox in the area! Hinox are huge, one-eyed beasts. They are incredibly strong. So strong, in fact, that they wield trees as weapons! We'd go after it, but with that kind of strength, we'd be in over our heads. It's a real situation." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  23. "I have a report saying that a Molduga was discovered in the East Barrens in the Gerudo Desert. The report came from the ground research team, and they've asked us to exterminate it. A Molduga is a terrifying beast that swims through the sand like a fish. We'd go after it, but we don't have the means to tackle a monster that burrows in the sand like that..." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  24. "You... You already defeated it?! Incredible! Well, of course you did, Link. Taking down a big monster like that all by yourself comes as no surprise. It's not much, but please take this." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
  25. "Here's hoping we can always count on your expert skill." — Gralens, Tears of the Kingdom
