Zunari is a character from The Wind Waker who resides on Windfall Island.

The Wind Waker

Zunari didn't always live on Windfall Island. He used to live on a very cold island somewhere where blizzards were common.[1] This is why Zunari can be seen wearing a heavy blue and white coat. When he does not have his hood up, you can see that he has what little hair is left in two small pig tails tied with bows on either side of his head. Zunari arrived at Windfall Island when his ship was torn apart by the vicious winds.[2] Zunari arrived on Windfall Island with his friend, Tingle. However, when they arrived together, Tingle was immediately arrested based on his suspicious looks and thrown into the Town Jail. Zunari is worried about Tingle and asks Link to help free him from captivity.[3] He gives Link the hint that Tingle is dressed up just like Link, wearing similar clothing.[4]

Zunari runs his own shop inside of a stall on Windfall Island. He wishes to have a successful shop on Windfall, but he isn't having too much luck. If Link tries getting behind his stall, Zunari will push him away telling him he cannot come back there.[5]

His first sale is when he sells Link the Sail for his boat, the King of Red Lions, and from then on, he considers Link a valuable customer. In The Wind Waker HD, Link must first rescue Tingle from the Town Jail, before he will sell him the Sail. Normally priced at 200 rupees, Zunari will sell Link the sail for 80 rupees for saving his friend.[6] His first sale is motivation for him to help out the Joyous Volunteer Association, an association whose goal is to fill up Windfall Island with flowers. Zunari tries to get his business going by selling the flowers needed to spruce up the town.

After returning to Windfall Island, Zunari has opened his stall, but only has a single item for sale.[7] He thinks what his shop needs is rare items that people are not able to get anywhere else. If he had such rare items, he thinks he can become rich. Although he quickly pivets and mentions that it will also help this down develop and become a happy place.[8] Although he wishes he had a young partner to help him out.[9]

Zunari will comment to Link about the Delivery Bag that he has. He will then ask him for a favor, asking Link to seek out Traveling Merchants to negotiate supply contracts on Zunari's behalf. While the language might sound official Zunari tries to calm Link down, stating that nothing is very difficult. Whatever items that Link trades with Traveling Merchants, they will become available at Zunari's general store. This is the Merchant's Oath.[10] If Link agrees, he will officially become partners with Zunari. To solidify the contract, Zunari will give Link a Town Flower.[11] Zunari hints that there is a wandering merchant off at Bomb Island, near the Forest Haven.[12]

Zunari also gives Link the Magic Armor if he makes a Merchant's Oath with at least three Traveling Merchants on random islands.

At night time on Windfall Island, Zunari runs the nightly Auction inside the Auction House. Here Link can win items including Treasure Charts, a Piece of Heart, or if playing The Wind Waker HD, the Swift Sail is one of the awards. After Link travels to Greatfish Isle and then returns to Windfall Island, the Great Sea will be in the midst of an Endless Night, with constant thunderstorms. This causes Zunari to cancel the nights auction.[13]

  1. "My story is a strange one... I came across cursed seas from a land far away...a land where the blizzards blow violently...heading for this town called Windfall." — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
  2. "But dear me! As I traveled, a terrible storm descended and tore my ship to bits...yet mysteriously, only that escaped without so much as a mark on it..." — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
  3. "There was one other person with me, yes there was... But, I dare say, he was immediately arrested based on his somewhat suspicious looks and thrown right into jail. Yes, just locked up somewhere on this island. Needless to say, I'm really worried about him. Would you be so kind as to help free him from captivity? Indeed, it would be appreciated." — Zunari, The Wind Waker HD.
  4. "Haa... I am so very worried about him... He's locked up in a jail somewhere on this island. And indeed, he's dressed a little like you, yes he is, so you should recognize him in an instant." — Zunari, The Wind Waker HD.
  5. "My dear fellow! I can't have you trying to come in this way! No, no, no! ...Go over there!" — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
  6. "Really?! You have rescued him?! That is news I deem rather great! You are one stand-up individual, indeed you are! Now, I apologize, as I have but another favor... I'm actually considering starting up a little shop here on the island, but I'm having trouble funding my venture... I have but one asset to my name. I wonder if you might buy it from me, perhaps? The people on this island have no interest in venturing out into these dangerous seas, so my chance of selling it to them is rather bleak. The bleakest I can describe. I'd really like to ask 200 Rupees for it, but as a favor for rescuing my friend, perhaps we may strike a deal... How does...80 Rupees sound?" — Zunari, The Wind Waker HD.
  7. "Yes, yes, yes! You're the young master who purchased my sail! At last, with those funds, I have been able to open my stall! But...I hate to say that my poor little stall is not an instant success. In fact, it is rather deserted, I'm afraid to say... ...I think this tragic turn of events is due to the fact that I don't have a wide enough lineup of products. For, if I am to be fully honest, I only have one product." — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
  8. "To put it another way, I think my stall would do much better if only I could stock rare items that people can't get here in town... Yes, yes, that is what I need! Then I would make plenty of money! Not just plenty of money...it would be like taking candy from many rich babies... No, no, not even that! By running a prosperous business, I can play my part to help this town develop and become a happy place... Yes, yes, that is the proper perspective!" — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
  9. "But dear me! If only I had a young partner to help me out... A real go-getter..." — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
  10. "Yes, yes! Master! Now that I take a longer look at you, I see that you have a fine Delivery Bag, do you not? Dear me, it is a bag fit for a hero...of delivery! I have a small request, and it requires the use of that bag... A request? I'm out of here! Oh, dear me! I knew it, young master! I knew you would understand my plight... It is a rather long-winded explanation, but please take the time to hear me out. My stall is a kind of general store that makes its money by obtaining rare products at inexpensive prices and then selling them. ...With a reasonable mark-up, of course. However, because I have so few products to sell, the shop remains rather...deserted. I will sell anything! I am a master of the sale! I just need to get some new products! Could you not seek out traveling merchants and negotiate supply contracts with them for me? No, no, no! Do not look so frightened! I say contracts, but it is just a word. You do not have to do anything very difficult. All I need for you to do is trade one of my products for a new product that the merchant has in stock. You see, among merchants, a trade is proof of a contract! That is to say, it is the merchant's oath... That is what we call it. Yes, yes. Merchants that have sworn a merchant's oath will afterwards send their products to me. It is the way things work. So, as you succeed in trading my products, my product lineup will increase! Do you understand everything I've told you? Perfectly! Not at all..." — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
  11. "Yes, yes! Young master, you are now my new salesman! No, no! Scratch that! Starting today, you and I are partners! Dear me, yes! I give to you my proof of contract... In other words, this is my merchant's oath! Take it with you, my young partner! The first thing you need to do is take this to another traveling merchant and trade it for something...to build on the foundation of my merchant's oath. As soon as you trade, the merchant you traded with will send his products to my shop, thereby increasing my product line. Which will make me quite happy! Well...your new trading partners_the traveling merchants_are waiting for you somewhere out there on the Great Sea!" — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
  12. "Say, I've heard that there is a wandering merchant on Bomb Island, a small land mass near the Forest Haven. If there is such a fellow, perhaps you can trade something with him. If you did, it might convince him to send his products to be sold in my shop. The more you are able to trade, the wider my product assortment becomes. And wider is better! Oh, my dear, yes!" — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
  13. "Dear me, but there's a terrible storm raging this evening... The night seems very... unsettled, somehow." — Zunari, The Wind Waker.
