She only talks to you if you defeat all enemies in the area. Joanne acts and dresses as if she's a mermaid for the Old Wayfarer. Joanne also believes that her sister, Jolene, is only pretending to be a pirate. She's a part of a mermaid side quest, which leads to Link receiving the Fishing Rod. At one point in the game, Link gets accidentally a letter from Jolene to Joanne. If Link delivers it to Joanne, he will get a Wisdom Gem from her.
