There are fifteen amiibo that give specific bonus items in Breath of the Wild, some items that can be acquired normally in the game, but some are weapons & armor which are only accessible by the amiibo. However, any other amiibo can be used with the game and will provide random items.
Unlocking amiibo
After turning on amiibo in the system menu, a new amiibo Rune will be in the rune menu, all the way to the right. Use this rune and target an open spot on the ground. This preps the game to receive an amiibo. Tap the amiibo figure to the controller as usual to activate the amiibo.
amiibo can only be used once per real-life day. This seems to reset at midnight based on the time settings on the console.
All amiibo will work with Breath of the Wild, even ones that are not related to the Zelda series. However, non-Zelda amiibo will simply give random items and have no specific exclusives.
Many of the Zelda-series amiibo have a chance to give exclusive items in addition to their first-time use bonus. It is therefore worth it to use them daily until these exclusive items are collected, if desired.

They were released for the first time on November 10th, 2017, and allow the player access to even more exclusive items. Wolf Link
Wolf Link is an exception to all other amiibo. Activating the Wolf Link amiibo will summon Wolf Link as a companion. The following are points of information that relate only to Wolf Link:
- Wolf Link has a default health of 3 hearts, however, using the game Twilight Princess HD, his maximum health can be increased. To do so, collect as many Pieces of Heart and Heart Containers as possible in Twilight Princess HD, and then use the Wolf Link amiibo to run the Cave of Shadows in that game. The health remaining at the end of the trial will become the maximum health in Breath of the Wild. Note that the best method (for Breath of the Wild's sake) is to first collect the maximum of 20 hearts (all heart containers and pieces) before ever entering the Cave of Shadows, the 5-level trial, and use the Wolf Link amiibo to heal Link immediately before completing the trial. If the 15 and 30-level versions are also completed, all three results are recorded on the amiibo, and Breath of the Wild will use the highest result of the three.
- Wolf Link can be summoned as many times as wished, unless he dies. Then he will be put on the same once-a-day timer as all other amiibo. If he dies, an autosave or manual save where he was still alive can be reloaded to circumvent the timer.
- Wolf Link can be healed if he has taken damage. Simply drop anything edible near him. If he is not at full health, he will seek out edible items on his own (including rare items), unless commanded to stay or Link picks them up before he eats them.
- Whether Wolf Link dies or not, he is healed to full health on the daily reset timer for all amiibo (unless he is actively summoned at the time.)
- To command Wolf Link to stay, target him and press A. Do so again to tell him to follow Link. If he is told to stay, and then Link moves far enough away that he teleports to him, he will revert to follow mode and must be told to stay again.
- Whistle (same way Link calls to a horse) to interrupt Wolf Link's current action and have him return to Link. Since he can only be targeted to tell him to stay when he is close, this is helpful. A last ditch effort to get him to return is to resummon him with the amiibo, which will work even if he is still currently summoned. This is recommended if he is about to get himself killed chasing a Guardian Stalker for instance, as those can kill even a 20-heart Wolf Link in two hits. And if all else fails, to keep him alive - and so avoid the daily timer before he can be summoned again following a death - warp somewhere. As long as Wolf Link is still alive when Link warps, he can be resummoned.
- Wolf Link is very aggressive. If he sees something that can be attacked, he will attack it. He will wake up sleeping enemies, including world bosses. If this is not desired, command him to stay.
- Even if an enemy has noticed Wolf Link, this does not mean he has noticed Link. It is possible to get behind an enemy focusing on Wolf Link and Sneakstrike them from behind for critical damage. This is more difficult if the enemy has noticed both Link and Wolf Link, however, as an enemy that has noticed both will tend to focus on Link instead of Wolf Link.
- No NPCs in the game will recognize Wolf Link's presence - characters will simply ignore him in both actions and dialogue. Only the player and enemies can see him or even know he is there.
- Wolf Link refuses to enter villages, shrines, or Divine Beasts.
- He will despawn if Link gets too far away from him without an opportunity for him to teleport closer (long paraglide voyages often trigger a despawn). Occasionally, attempting to summon him with cause unexplained "cannot be used here" errors, even in locations that are otherwise fine. Just move a little way and try again.
- Every time Link dies or warps, Wolf Link despawns and must be summoned again.
- However, he is quite happy to run beside Link while riding a horse without despawning.
- He will sometimes glitch on vertical walls, which can be visually amusing. Simply move far enough away from the wall, and he will attempt to follow Link. If he is stuck, move further and he will teleport back to Link or despawn. Whistling or resummoning may also work.
- There seems to be no way to make him manually despawn other than the methods mentioned above.
- When the Sheikah Sensor or Sensor+ rune detects something nearby, Wolf Link is not preoccupied attacking wildlife or enemies, Link is close enough, and other unknown conditions are correct; Wolf Link will trot off in the direction of what is being sensed. If he gets too far away, he will turn around and sit, waiting for Link to catch up. If Link heads in a different direction, he will follow. This behavior is not dependable as he is easily distracted, but when it happens it is helpful.
Trivia
- None of the amiibo weapons have entries in the Hyrule Compendium.
- All amiibo armor and weapon items can be summoned repeatedly, but the former have one condition: the armor items belonging to sets available through amiibo will initially appear consecutively at random, meaning that (for instance) the player won't summon a second Cap of the Wind until the Hero of Winds Set is complete (Cap+Tunic+Trousers in any order). Once the set is complete, duplicate armor items may appear. This condition doesn't apply to single armor items like Sheik's Mask, as it's not formally part of a whole set obtainable through amiibo, or to amiibo-exclusive weapons, even if the amiibo summons the previously mentioned sets, as they can appear at any point.
- Only the four Divine Beast Helms of the armor set items available through amiibo exceed a defense of 20 at a ★★★★ upgrade level. The base game on its own has the Soldier's Set, the Ancient Set, the Set of the Wild as well as the Amber Earrings and Diamond Circlet, all with a top defense of 28, and the Champion's Tunic which has a top defense of 32. The Divine Beast Helms (Ruta, Rudania, Naboris and Medoh) are part of the Ancient Set, but unlike the Ancient Helm they do not provide protection against Guardians, so they reduce the set's effectiveness in that respect.
- None of the armor set items available through amiibo can be dyed except the Divine Beast Helms.
- Most of the armor sets summoned through amiibo (except the Fierce Deity Set) are notoriously difficult to upgrade because, as a whole, they require the use of a significant number of Star Fragments, which are among the most precious and rare resources in the game, all while being notoriously grueling to farm.
- The amiibo rune cannot be used while undergoing the Trial of the Sword.
- Amiibo armors and weapons cannot be purchased from Granté. As such, to obtain them again, the amiibo figurines have to be re-scanned.
- Amiibo armor items can be sold at a base price of 125 Rupees a piece at clothes vendors. Prices fluctuate depending on the degree of upgrading made on them.
