The Megaton Hammer is an item from Ocarina of Time.
Ocarina of Time
"You found the Megaton Hammer! Press to smash and break junk! It's so heavy, you need to use two hands to swing it!"
In Ocarina of Time, the Megaton Hammer is the dungeon item of the Fire Temple. According to legend, it was wielded by an ancestor of Darunia, who used the hammer to defeat Volvagia and seal it inside of Death Mountain.[1][2] It can be used to break boulders and blocks that bar certain areas, smash in Rusty Switches that do not respond to weight, or open the entrance to some Secret Grottos.
The Megaton Hammer can also be used as a weapon; it deals damage equivalent to the Master Sword, but swings slower. However, the hammer's strikes can flip over certain enemies such as Tektites, or instantly defeat Skullwalltulas by knocking them off walls. It is required to defeat Volvagia, and is useful against Ganon.
Non-Canon Appearances
This section describes a subject that is or may be outside the core Zelda canon. |
SoulCalibur II
In SoulCalibur II, the Megaton Hammer is one of the weapons that Link can use.
Hyrule Warriors
In Hyrule Warriors, the Megaton Hammer is the Level 3 variation of the Hammer. It has an altered appearance in this game, featuring a red, black, and gold color scheme.
Cadence of Hyrule
In Cadence of Hyrule, the Megaton Hammer was added with the Symphony of the Mask DLC. In this game, it resembles the Hammer from A Link to the Past. When used, the player character will smack the hammer down in front of them, dealing 3 damage to enemies and smashing certain objects, at the cost of 1 Stamina Unit.

- ↑ "Who's there? Is that you, Link...? Oh, it really is Link! You've grown so big since I last saw you! I want to have a man-to-man talk with you, but now's not the time. Ganondorf is causing trouble on Death Mountain again! He has revived the evil, ancient dragon Volvagia! On top of that, he is going to feed my people to that evil dragon as a warning to other races that might resist him... If that fire-breathing dragon escapes from the mountain, all of Hyrule will become a burning wasteland! I will go on ahead to try to seal up the evil dragon... I'm concerned, though, because I don't have the legendary hammer... But I have no choice. Link...I'm asking you to do this as my Sworn Brother... While I'm trying to deal with the dragon, please save my people! The prisoners' cells are in the opposite direction. I'm counting on you, Link!" — Darunia, Ocarina of Time.

Destroyed it just like that. This is a myth from long ago, but it's true! I know, because my dad is a descendant of the hero!" — Link the Goron, Ocarina of Time.
