Queen Ambi is a character who first appears in Oracle of Ages. She also appears in a Linked playthrough of Oracle of Seasons. Ambi served as the reigning monarch of the land of Labrynna four-hundred years in the past.
Oracle of Ages
During Link's first visit into Labrynna's past, he learns from the residents of Lynna Village that Ambi has ordered the construction of a great tower that was initially intended to guide her lover, a seaman, home from his journeys abroad. However, Ambi has fallen under the manipulation of Veran, via the possessed Nayru, who is using the tower's construction to spread sorrow throughout Labrynna. Using the power of the Oracle of Ages to create a day that never ends, Veran convinces Ambi to force her subjects to work endlessly toward the tower's completion, insisting it will stand as a testament to the queen's greatness for ages to come. Link gains an audience with Ambi while searching for the entrance to the Wing Dungeon, after coming across the Mystery Seeds Veran has been seeking. As thanks for his tribute to her, Ambi bequeaths to Link the Bombs necessary to enter the Wing Dungeon.
Following the completion of the Mermaid's Cave, Link receives word that Queen Ambi has left her palace for an undisclosed reason. This creates an opportunity for Link to sneak past the lowered guard of the palace and make his way inside, with the help of Ralph, a childhood friend of Nayru who also seeks to rescue her. Using Mystery Seeds, Link is able to purge Veran from Nayru's body, but the queen's return soon afterward allows Veran to possess her instead. This brings the guards under Veran's direct control, meaning work on the tower will continue and forcing Link, Ralph, and Nayru to escape into the present. While inhabiting the queen's body, Veran forgoes hiding in the palace completely and confines herself to the highest reaches of the nearly-complete Black Tower, forcing Link to collect the remaining Essences of Time before he can reach her.
After collecting the final essence, Link meets Ralph, Impa, and Nayru at the base of the Black Tower, where Impa reveals that Ralph is a distant descendant of Queen Ambi, and therefore will vanish from existence if she is slain. Despite this, Ralph resolves to sacrifice himself by killing Ambi personally if it means bringing peace to the people of Labrynna; he is unable to contend with Veran's power, though, and she easily overwhelms him. Link manages to defeat Veran in Ralph's place, once again using Mystery Seeds and the Switch Hook to ensure that Ambi comes to no harm. Once freed from possession, Ambi flees the tower, revealing later that she had gone to amass a force of soldiers to help Link's cause.
During the game's epilogue, Ambi commissions a pair of statues to commemorate Link's heroic deeds, and subsequently takes leave of her palace to embark on a journey of personal growth, setting the stage for the events seen in a Linked Game.
Oracle of Seasons
In a Linked Game where Oracle of Ages is completed first, Queen Ambi goes on to make numerous appearances throughout Link's adventure in Holodrum. She first appears inside Mrs. Ruul's house in Holodrum Plain, where she greets Link warmly and explains that Nayru brought her into the present day in order to complete her journey.
Ambi will progress to new locations as Link advances in his journey: she is intrigued by the flooded state of Sunken City and wonders if she should make her palace sunken, as well. She reappears on Holodrum's Eastern Coast, where she gazes across the sea while reminiscing about her lost lover, lamenting that a child like Link would not understand her complex feelings. Her final appearance is in the House of Pirates in Subrosia; after Link returns to the Cap'n his lost Bell, Ambi appears and recognizes him as her former lover. The two share a tender moment of recollection, but ultimately, the Cap'n confesses that he cannot give up his life as a seaman, which Ambi understands. She promises to wait for him to return from his next journey, and remains in the House of Pirates after his departure. When spoken to, she will apologize to Link for having to see her in such a state.
