Lamps are recurring items in The Legend of Zelda series.
A Link to the Past
"Lamp
Whenever Link enters a cave, dungeon or other dark area he will have instant access to his trusty Lamp. The oil in the Lamp is long-lasting, but it does require Magic Power to light."
"Link realizes that if he must go to the depths of Hyrule Castle, he'll need a dependable Lamp."
"Link can always use the Lamp to light the larger, stationary torches in caves and dungeons."
"A Lamp in 3 Locations
If, for some unforeseen reason, Link neglects to collect the Lamp before he leaves his house and enters Hyrule Castle, he can find other Lamps inside the castle. It's best for Link to pick up the Lamp at home because it allows other important items to appear in the Small Chests inside of Hyrule Castle."
The Lamp is the first item acquired in A Link to the Past. It is found right after waking up, in a Treasure Chest located in the southeast corner of Link's House. With the Lamp, Link can light torches and see in dark places. However, it uses up a small amount of Magic Power. If Link does not take the Lamp from the Treasure Chest in his house, he will instead find it in the Sewers of Hyrule Castle, or in Zelda's cell.
Four Swords Adventures
In Four Swords Adventures, the Lamp can be found on item podiums in various stages. It lights things on fire, including torches, grass, and wood.[1]
A Link Between Worlds
In A Link Between Worlds, the Lamp functions similarly to the Lamp in A Link to the Past. However, it does not actively utilize the Energy Gauge, making it infinitely usable. At first, it does half as much damage as the Captain's Sword. It can be upgraded into the Super Lamp by completing the advanced course of the Treacherous Tower. It becomes incredibly powerful, dealing eight times as much damage as before. As a result, the Super Lamp is a useful weapon for close-up encounters, though other items may still be more efficient to use.
Trivia
- When merged into a wall in A Link Between Worlds, the Lamp is visible attached to Link's belt. It also continues to give off light around Link.
