Template:Character Link is a young boy who is lives with his Uncle in Hyrule and is the male protagonist. He finds himself thrust into a quest to save Hyrule after one night when he begins to hear a girl's voice in his head telling him to come to the dungeon of the castle and rescue her. He wakes up to see his Uncle sitting at the table with a sword and shield in his hands. His Uncle tells him to not leave the house and that he will be back in the morning. Once his Uncle leaves, Link disobeys his Uncles orders and goes to the castle. He finds himself unable to enter the castle due to the guards who are prevent him from getting in. He hears the girl's voice again that tells him to follow the flower path that leads to a secret passageway that leads inside the castle walls. He follows the path and finds a hole underneath a bush at the end of it. He falls down the hole and is shocked to find his Uncle wounded from an apparent battle with the guards. He goes to him and his Uncle scolds him for not listening to what he said earlier about staying at home. Nonetheless, he gives Link the sword and shield that he possesses and tells Link how to use the Spin Attack, a secret technique passed down their people, the Knights of Hyrule. He implores Link to save the Princess Zelda and then he falls into unconsciousness. Link leaves his Uncle and enters the Castle. After fighting through many guards and obtaining the Boomerang, Link finally finds Princess Zelda at the lowest level of the castle in the dungeon. He defeats the Ball and Chain Trooper who is guarding the princess and sets her free.
After freeing her from her cell, he takes her back through the castle and they use a secret passageway located in the throne room to reach the Sanctuary. Once Princess Zelda is in the safe hands of the Sage, Link leaves the continue his quest by searching for the wise man named Sahasrahla. After getting directions from Sahasrahla's Grandson, he locates the wise man in a temple located near the Eastern Palace. Once he obtains the Pendant of Courage from the Eastern Palace, Sahasrahla gives him the Pegasus Shoes as a rewards for his efforts and tells him to obtain the other two pendants and gain the Master Sword. Link goes on to obtain the two pendants, the Pendant of Wisdom and the Pendant of Power, and ventures into the Lost Woods to find the mythical sword.
Once he has the sword in hand, he receives a frantic telepathic message from the Sage and when he arrives to see what is going on, he finds Princess Zelda gone and the Sage wounded. He discovers that Agahnim is the reason behind these events and sets off for castle. He goes to the upper portion of the palace that he could enter before and uses the Master Sword to dispel the barrier that was preventing him from entering. Once inside he storms through the dark wizard's hideout and after many battles he finally reaches him. Sadly he finds him and the Princess Zelda too late for right as he enters he sees the princess behind sent to the Dark World before him. He then heads after Agahnim and battles him by turning his own magic against him using the Master Sword. Upon his defeat, Agahnim draws Link into the Dark World, where now the young hero finds himself in a quest to find the seven maidens and defeat the person who is truly behind all of the evil events that have been happening, Ganon. After he frees all of the maidens from their prisons, they combine their powers together and break the barrier surrounding Ganon's Tower allowing him to enter. After fighting his way through the tower he finds Agahnim waiting for him and duels him once more. This time though he truly defeats the evil wizard and discovers that the man was actually Ganon's alter ego. A figment of Ganon comes out of the fallen wizard and changes into a bat and flies away to which Link follows to see where it is headed. The bat then crash lands into the top of the Pyramid of Power and creates a gaping hole. Link falls down through the hole and finds himself face to face with Ganon. The two engage in battle and using the Silver Arrows that Link obtained from Fat Fairy located inside of the Pyramid and the Master Sword, Link is finally able to land the final blow to the monster and defeats him. After Ganon's defeat, a door opens behind the battlefield and in the next room, Link finds the Triforce. With some insistence from the Triforce, Link touches it and makes a wish which returns everything back to the way it should be.
After the wish comes true, Link can be seen in the ending scene before the credits twice. The first time he is standing next to his Uncle in front of their home and the second is when he is laying the Master Sword to rest for the final time.
Princess Zelda
Template:Character Princess Zelda is a beautiful young girl who is the princess of Hyrule and is the female protagonist. She is imprisoned in the castle dungeon after her father's adviser, Agahnim, gets rid of the king and takes over the kingdom. She fears for what Agahnim is planning and knows that it involves her since she is one of the descendants of the seven wise men and that the other six have been sent to the Dark World. She tries to prevent Agahnim's plans from taking place by sending out a telepathic message and hopes that someone would hear her. Her hopes are realized when a young boy named Link hears her call and comes to her rescue. After she is freed, they both head to the Sanctuary via a secret passageway. There she is kept safe by the Priest and she tells Link to seek the Elder, Sahrashla.
Shortly after Link receives the Master Sword, Zelda is kidnapped by Agahnim and is brought to his hideaway to become the final sacrifice to open a portal to the Dark World. Link comes to stop the dark wizard and save her, but is unable to and is forced to watch Agahnim finish the spell and send her to the Dark World. While in the Dark World, she spends her time waiting for Link to rescue her from Turtle Rock. She contacts him a few times telepathically to inform him of her whereabouts. After Link saves her, she uses her powers in unison with the other maidens to dispel the barrier protecting Ganon's Tower.
After Link defeats Ganon and makes his wish on the Triforce, Zelda is seen in the ending credits standing next to her healed father, the King, and with the six maidens and unbrainwashed soldiers surrounding her.

He now Rules the Golden Land and causes havoc in the Kingdom of Hyrule.
Agahnim

Minor Characters
Average Middle-Aged Man
Template:Character This man is an expert locksmith and ex-thief who is found near the entrance to the Desert of Mystery in the Southwestern corner of the Light World. He has black hair and a mustache and wears a yellow long-sleeved shirt with light red overalls. He sits next to a sign that tells people who see him to ignore him and to leave him alone. If Link attempts to speak to him he refuses and if Link picks up his sign, the man will follow him around annoyed by what he did.
He warms up to Link later on when he sees him carrying around a treasure chest that has the key to it locked inside. He picks the lock on the chest which gives Link access to the Magic Bottle that is found inside. In return, he makes Link promise not to tell anyone who he really is and everytime he speaks to the Hero afterwards, he reminds him of his promise. He is last seen during the ending behind the Desert Palace using his lockpicking skills to open some treasure chests.
Bomb Shop Owner
Template:Character The bomb merchant is a green alien-looking guy who has a snout like an anteater that he uses to puff air out of. His place of business is located in a building in the Dark World where Link's house is at in the Light World.
Just as his name implies, he sells bombs and will come up with a more explosive bomb later called the Super Bomb. This bomb is a huge, red bomb and costs 100 rupees. Link must use this bomb to gain access to the Mysterious Pond inside of the Pyramid of Power and talk to the Fat Fairy and she'll grant him the Silver Arrows and the Golden Sword, if he throws his sword into the water.
Bully and Friend
Link meets this strange pair when he first enters the Dark World via a portal on top of Death Mountain near Spectacle Rock and the Tower of Hera. The two became trapped in the Dark World during their search for the Golden Power and because they didn't get the Moon Pearl from the Tower, they changed into a form that best represents themselves.
The Bully changed into a monstrous creature with sharp teeth, a horn on top of his head, and dark skin. His appearance was because of his nature as a bully. His friend became a pink mushroom-shaped ball with two feet. The reason for his appearance was because of his tendency to always change his mind on things. The two spend their time in the Dark World with the Bully chasing and kicking his Friend due to his anger at the situation and the Friend attempting to run away from him with no luck.
When they first speak to Link before he has the Moon Pearl and his appearance is that of a pink bunny, the Bully makes fun of Link's looks and tells him to back off because he's mad at what he's become and hates that he didn't get the Moon Pearl first. The Friend explains to Link why everyone changes shapes when they enter the Dark World and that to prevent that change one must have the Moon Pearl in his possession.
After Link gets the Moon Pearl from the Tower of Hera and returns to the area where the two are, their reactions are different in that they are both surprised at his original form and that he now has the Moon Pearl. At the end of the game, the two friends are found back in the Light World in their true forms on top of Death Mountain. The Bully is still chasing his Friend, but this time it doesn't involve him kicking him around relentlessly, it is instead them just hanging out as friends should.
Dark World Shopkeepers
These guys are found in many shops throughout the Dark World. They all have the appearance of what appears to be a large brown mouse wearing purple clothing. They sell a variety of items that are essential to Link's quest. The shops that are manned by these shopkeepers are found in the Village of Outcasts (where Kakariko Village is in the Light World), south of the Lake of Ill Omen (the Magic Shop's location in the Light World), and directly west of the Pyramid of Power.
Digging Gamer Operator
This character runs the Village of Outcasts Digging Game. It is located in the Dark World in the area where the maze in Kakariko Village is. To play the game, Link must pay 80 rupees and depending on whether or not Link has the Shovel, the operator may or may not provide him with the shovel he is holding. Link is given 30 seconds to dig at any spot he wishes and can dig up a variety of things: rupees, stock items, and even a Piece of Heart.
Dwarven Swordsmiths
These guys are two men who reside in the far right side of Kakariko Village and work as swordsmiths for a living. They discourage people from attempting to temper a sword on their own seeing as they are the only professionals around. When Link first goes to meet them, he only finds one of the swordsmiths at the house, tinkering away at a piece of metal. He tells Link that he can't temper his sword at the moment because his partner has not returned.
After Link obtains the Titan's Mitt from Thieves' Town dungeon and heads to the southern part of the Village of Outcasts, he will find a strange frog who is trapped behind some black stones. Using the Mitt, Link removes the stones that are in the way in order to set him free. After Link talks to him, he finds out that the frog is the missing swordsmith. The frog then requests that Link take him back home.
Using the Magic Mirror, Link transports the two back to the Light World and takes the other swordsmith (who is now back to normal) to his home. Once there, the two swordsmiths are overjoyed to have found each other and as a reward they offer to temper Link's sword the next time he comes by. When Link comes by again, the two are ready to temper his sword. They give him a big discount and let him pay only 10 rupees as a thank you and with the Hero's permission they begin their work. Once Link returns once more he finds that the sword has been tempered in a red and much more powerful sword than he had before.

Despite his disappearance, his "ghost" appears in the same field atop a stump located in the center. He will play the Flute for the animals surrounding him and when Link gets too close to him, the ghost will disappear and the animals will scatter.
After Link gets sent to the Dark World by Agahnim, he encounters the real Flute Boy who is found in the Dark World's version of the field. He has the appearance of a tree-like creature and he longs to return to the Light World and see his father again. Seeing Link, he asks him to go back to the Light World to find his Flute. He gives him a Shovel to use to find it since he buried it with some seeds before he left to search for the Golden Power.
Respecting his wish, Link uses the Magic Mirror to travel back to the Light World and begins digging in the flowers of that field he used to be in to find the Flute. He finally finds it in one of the flower patches in the top left corner of the field. With the Flute in his possession, he returns to the Dark World and shows the boy his Flute. The boy is happy to see it and finds that he can't play it anymore. He asks Link to play it for him as he knows that his time is coming soon and he wants to hear the notes that he once played on the Flute one last time. After Link finishes playing, the boy slowly turns into a tree and because of this his spirit is unable to continue reappearing in the Light World anymore.
The Flute Boy is last seen during the ending credits sitting in the field with his father and being surrounded by animals while playing his Flute once more.
Flute Boy's Father
This old man is found in the restaurant in Kakariko Village. He is missing his lost son and is found sleeping most of the time while there. When Link has obtained his lost son's Flute and plays it for him, he recognizes it and realizes that it's his son's and instantly knows what has happened to him. He tells Link to keep the Flute and to play it for his son's bird that is in the Village's square.
He is last seen with his son in the field near the village, listening to him play the Flute.
Flute Boy's Duck
This duck belongs to the Flute Boy and becomes a great ally to Link. It is found after Link plays the Flute in Kakariko Village's square (where the weather vane is). It appears in the spot where the wooden bird atop the weather vane was sitting.
After Link awakens it, it is able to take Link to eight locations throughout the Light World. Some of these locations are found near entrances to the Dark World. It makes another appearance when the duck transports Link from Ganon's Tower to the top of the Pyramid of Power.
