The Loach will appear 1 out of 4 times that you enter the Fishing Pond. Each time you enter, you have to pay the 20 rupee admission for it to ''count'' as one of the 4 times you enter the Pond. Enter the pond and immediately go and get the Sinking Lure. Then check around to see if you can find the Hylian Loach.
=== Basic Behavior ===
The Hylian Loach will appear every 4th time you enter the Fishing Pond and pay the 20 rupee admission fee.  Therefore, your 4th, 8th, 12th, etc. paid admission will have at least one Hylian Loach.  The Hylian Loach also cycles in multiples of 4 when returning to the shallows from the deep. Link will hear a "thwap" sound on top of the water every couple of minutes then returns to the deep.  On the 4th, 8th, etc. the Hylain Loach will move to the shallows underneath the pond's right or left patch of lily pads.  While in the shallows, the Hylian Loach makes very distinct swirls in the water as it's chasing Link's lure.

The Hylian Loach always starts in the exact same location, near the lilypads just beyond the arched log. It will always start there unless you scare it off, at which point it will then travel closer to the center of the pond, making it harder to catch.
The Hylian Loach can be caught with both the Sinking Lure (only as Adult Link) and regular lure.  The regular lure is only effective at catching the Hylian Loach in the shallows of the lily pads, while the Sinking Lure (used as Adult Link) is able to catch it anywhere.

=== Locations and Strategies ===

===== Child Link =====
Child Link has two Hylian Loaches in his pond.  When you enter the pond, the first Hylian Loach is located near the back of the right patch of lily pads while the second Hylain Loach is in the left lily pad patch near the back.  As child link, the Hylian Loach will only bite the regular lure and can only be caught in shallow water.  Child link is unable to catch the Hylian Loach with the Sinking Lure.

===== Adult Link =====

As Adult Link there is only one Hylian Loach in the pond.  As you enter the pond, the Hylain Loach is located near the back of the left lily pad patch. It will always start there unless you scare it off, at which point it will then travel closer to the center of the pond and start the aforementioned "thwap" cycle.
