A Mountainous Mystery

A Mountainous Mystery is a Side Quest in Echoes of Wisdom.

Overview

After completing The Rift on Eldin Volcano, make your way to the Summit Cave, found at the north end of the Eldin Volcano. Inside Darston can be found, who hears louds screams of a flame giant deep within the cave.

Requirements

Walkthrough

  • After clearing the Eldin Temple, enter the Summit Cave found at the far north end of Eldin Volcano.
  • In the first area, use a Lava Rock Echo to create Lava Rocks and navigate across the area. In some cases, Zelda will need to use Bind to use existing Lava Rocks, alongside the Echoes she creates. Zelda should use the Frog Ring to jump higher and can also change to Swordfighter Form temporarily, as she can jump further while in that form.
  • In the second area, Zelda will encounter some Fire Keese, but will again need to use Lava Rocks to scale the geysers of lava at the northeast end of the room.
  • In the side-scrolling area, Zelda will need to wait until the lava subsides before quickly running and climbing by.
  • In the last area, Zelda will need to climb up on the right side. Zelda will need to use a Strandtula Echo to summon Strandtulas. This can be a bit tricky. While on a web, look to the right and summon a Strandtula. You don't want to be too close to the ceiling, otherwise the enemy will drop to the ground. Depending on how far along you are in the quest, Strandtula might take 2 triangles from Tri, so Zelda can only spawn two at a time.
  • Here Zelda will do battle with the Flame Giant.
  • During the first phase, Zelda can use Bind to pull the stone off the boss, much like the battle with the Seismic Talus back in the Suthorn Ruins.
  • During the final phase, Zelda can't quite pull the orb out and instead, will need to use Echoes to hit it. A Lizalfos Lv. 3 is the best echo to use, but a Spear Moblin Lv. 2 will do the trick. After enough hits to the orb, it will crumble to the ground. Slash at it with Swordfighter Form. Repeat this process until the boss is defeated.
  • Grab the Piece of Heart and the Rupees that are left behind.
  • As a reward for clearing the cave, Darston will present Zelda with the Goron's Bracelet. While wearing it, it gives the Carry Speed Up effect.

Adventure Log

Step Description
1 The noises are coming from a cave near the summit. Darston thinks it might be a flame giant from a local folk tale, who was trapped inside when its flames were put out.
2 You defeated the flame giant! You should let Darston know it was the thing causing the strange noises.
Complete You defeated the flame giant from the legend! The mysterious noises have stopped. Darston was relieved and returned to Goron City.
