Magic Spells appear in multiple games of the The Legend of Zelda series.

The Adventure of Link

Two magic spells form a major part of the backstory of The Adventure of Link - when the King of Hyrule decided not to pass the full Triforce to his son, believing him unworthy, he hid the Triforce of Courage, telling only his daughter, Princess Zelda I of its location, and cast a spell to ensure that when a "young man with that character who has been brought up correctly [and] has gained many kinds of experiences...reached a certain age", he would have the mark of the Triforce appear on his hand, destining him to possess it.

When the King died and the former Prince learned what had happened to the Triforce of Courage, he and an evil Magician confronted Zelda I, and the magician cast a spell which sent the princess into a seemingly-endless sleep, but also killed the magician so it could never be reversed.

After the mark appeared on Link's hand and Impa told him of the spells, he set off on an adventure to reaWaken the sleeping Zelda I. On this journey, he learns eight spells of his own:

Ocarina of Time

"Welcome Link! I am the Great Fairy of Magic! I will give you a magic spell. Please take it."

Link can obtain three magic spells in the course of his adventure, although only Din's Fire is required.
