Magic Spells appear in multiple games of the The Legend of Zelda series.
The Adventure of Link
Two magic spells form a major part of the backstory of The Adventure of Link - when the King of Hyrule decided not to pass the full Triforce to his son, believing him unworthy, he hid the Triforce of Courage, telling only his daughter, Princess Zelda I of its location, and cast a spell to ensure that when a "young man with that character who has been brought up correctly [and] has gained many kinds of experiences...reached a certain age", he would have the mark of the Triforce appear on his hand, destining him to possess it.
When the King died and the former Prince learned what had happened to the Triforce of Courage, he and an evil Magician confronted Zelda I, and the magician cast a spell which sent the princess into a seemingly-endless sleep, but also killed the magician so it could never be reversed.
After the mark appeared on Link's hand and Impa told him of the spells, he set off on an adventure to reaWaken the sleeping Zelda I. On this journey, he learns eight spells of his own:
Shield Spell
Shield temporarily halves the damage Link receives. Link learns the spell at the behest of the Wise Man's Daughter in the Town of Rauru.Jump Spell
Jump doubles Link's leaping height. Link is allowed to learn the spell after recovering a stolen Trophy in the Tantari Desert and returning it to Ruto.Life Spell
Life recovers three heart containers. In order to gain access to the spell, Link must find a young woman's mirror in the Water Town of Saria.Fairy Spell
Fairy transforms Link into a diminutive fairy that can fly over obstacles and through locked doors. Link is given the spell after acquiring the Water of Life from the Moruge Swamp to save a sick child in the Harbor Town of MidoFire Spell
Fire allows Link to shoot fireballs from his Sword. It is the only way to damage Tektites and Zoras. Link learns the spell in Nabooru after bringing Water to a Thirsty Lady. Link must possess a minimum of five Magic Containers in order to learn the spell.Reflect Spell
Reflect turns Wizards' magic against them. It also allows Link's Shield to block projectiles that it couldn't previously like an Acheman's fireball or a Geru mace. Link is allowed to learn the spell from the Wise Man of the Mountain Town of Darunia after successfully rescuing a Kidnapped Child from Maze Island. Link must possess a minimum of six Magic Containers in order to learn the spell.Spell Spell
Spell turns most enemies into largely harmless Bots. It also uncovers a secret in the Hidden Town of Kasuto. Link is awarded the spell after finding the Wise Man in Hidden Kasuto inside of his fireplace. Link must possess a minimum of seven Magic Containers in order to learn the spell.Thunder Spell
Thunder, the most potent and powerful magic, destroys most enemies instantly. Link must cast Thunder in order to force Thunderbird's weak point appear. Link is taught the final spell by the Wise Man of Kasuto after collecting all eight Magic Containers.
Ocarina of Time
"Welcome Link! I am the Great Fairy of Magic! I will give you a magic spell. Please take it."
Link can obtain three magic spells in the course of his adventure, although only Din's Fire is required.
Din's Fire
Din's Fire can be acquired from the Great Fairy located in the Great Fairy Fountain behind a boulder on the trail to Hyrule Castle. The spell creates a great orb of fire around Link, expanding and spreading, setting fire to any enemies or torches on the way. It consumes 6 MP, and is key in accessing the Shadow Temple.Farore's Wind
Farore's Wind can be obtained in the Great Fairy Fountain toward the back wall of Zora's Fountain behind a giant, bombable wall. Farore's Wind can only be used in dungeons with a Dungeon Map, and is used to make warp points in the dungeon, which can be returned to any time from that or another dungeon. Each warp point can only be returned to once per casting, although the spell can be cast again after use, and only one warp point can be set at a time. It costs 6 MP to set a warp point.Nayru's Love
Nayru's Love is found in the Desert Colossus, in a Great Fairy Fountain behind a bombable wall. Nayru's Love allows Link to become invulnerable, but only as long as his Magic Power allows. Link will still get knocked back by enemies, but he will take no damage. This spell takes 12 MP per casting.
