Fi is a character from Skyward Sword. Created by the goddess Hylia, she is the spirit of the Goddess Sword and Link's companion throughout the events of the game.
==Skyward Sword== | |||
Fi first appears to Link inside the Knight Academy shortly after he is separated from Zelda by a black tornado. She leads Link throughout the town of Skyloft to the secret interior of the Statue of the Goddess where the Goddess Sword rests. Fi entices Link to draw the blade and, with the help of Gaepora, exposits the great destiny that he must fulfill by descending to the Surface and reuniting with Zelda, giving him the Emerald Tablet that will open the way to Faron Woods.
Fi goes on to accompany Link in his travels throughout the game, designating him to be her master as the wielder of the Goddess Sword and pledging her eternal guidance and loyalty to him. Because she was programmed with a wealth of knowledge and information, she is able to provide Link with detailed analyses of enemies, items, and areas he comes across in his journey. She also teaches him important techniques such as the Skyward Strike and how to dowse for certain characters and items, and translates divine messages to be relayed to Link. As the game advances, Link is required to empower his blade by imbuing it with three Sacred Flames, which together transform Fi's dwelling into the legendary Master Sword.
Fi retains a very icy and stoic demeanor throughout the game, owing to her innate inability to feel emotion, and frequently presents information to Link in the form of percentages, calculations, and variables. This also leads her to be very forward and blunt in her analyses of other characters, and she is not above treating even Link with some snide early on in his adventure. The two of them gradually grow closer as the story advances, however, and Fi confesses near the end of the game that she has come to cherish the time they've spent together. Also among her attributes are a propensity for singing, as her vocals accompany Link on the Goddess's Harp when activating Trial Gates, and dancing, as she does when translating messages at the Skyview and Earth Springs and the Isle of Songs.
Following the successful defeat of Demise, Fi is able to absorb the demon king's remains into the Master Sword, ensuring they remain sealed there with no hope of escape. With the journey at its end and Zelda and Link reunited, Fi requests that Link bring their mission to an end by planting the Master Sword in its pedestal in the Temple of Hylia, at which point Fi will retreat into an endless sleep within the blade, despite Link's objections. In her final moments, Fi reassures Link by claiming to feel happiness as she reflects on the time they've spent together, and bids him a grateful farewell in the hope that they may meet in another life.

Fi is a character from Skyward Sword. Created by the goddess Hylia, she is the spirit of the Goddess Sword and Link's companion throughout the events of the game.
Skyward Sword
Non-Canon Appearances
This section describes a subject that is or may be outside the core Zelda canon. |
Hyrule Warriors
"When you battle as Fi, you don't really need a weapon—because you ARE a weapon: the devastating Goddess Sword."
Fi is a playable character in Hyrule Warriors, Hyrule Warriors Legends, and Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition. Like in Skyward Sword, she is the spirit that dwells in the Goddess Sword that is housed in the inside of the Statue of the Goddess.[3] With extensive knowledge and a highly analytical mind, Fi thinks things through logically, bestowing wisdom and advice to those who hold the Goddess Sword.[4] While having a young, feminine body made of a blue, metal-like material, she is genderless and does not have emotions.[5] She is weak to the darkness element and she drops Fi's Heels as a silver material and Fi's Crystal as a gold.
Link first meets Fi in Legend Mode during the Land in the Sky scenario on Skyloft. He hears a mysterious voice calling to him from within the Statue of the Goddess.[6] Inside, he finds Fi, who introduces herself and says that although he is not her master, she can consider him a master and she will assist him.[7] Fi then helps Link defeat Volga.[8] She then suggests that they head to the Sealed Grounds, where they hope to find Ghirahim and close the Gate of Souls.[9]
Fi is first playable during the scenario Sealed Ambition on the Sealed Grounds, where she helps Link defeat Ghirahim. She then teaches Link to use a Skyward Strike so he can close the Gate of Souls in the area.[10]
She is also playable on the stages The Sacred Sword, A War of Spirit, and Shining Beacon. Additionally, she appears in the story on the stages The Demon Lord's Plan and The Demon Lord, as a part of Linkle and Cia's respective stories.

Trivia
- Because Fi is an inorganic being, she lacks a defined biological sex, as noted by developers such as Eiji Aonuma in an early interview.[12] However, in addition to being designed with a feminine figure, she is referred to with female pronouns throughout the game, including by her creator, Zelda.[13]
- Despite being attuned to the feelings of attraction Link holds toward other characters, such as Zelda and Peatrice, Fi does not seem aware that Scrapper holds these same feelings for her, as she acknowledges his attempts to gain her approval with only a casual disinterest.
- According to developers' notes shown in Hyrule Historia, Fi is meant to appear between 13 and 14 years old despite her immeasurable actual age. This would make her three to four years younger than Link, appearance wise.
- Although Fi has not appeared personally in any games before or since Skyward Sword, several of Link's interactions with the Master Sword have been indirectly attributed to her, retroactively or otherwise.
- In Ocarina of Time, Zelda points to the Master Sword itself as the one that sealed Link in the Sacred Realm for seven years, suggesting Fi did not view the younger Link as capable of fulfilling the role of the Hero of Time.[14] The manner in which the Master Sword glows brightly during the fight with Ganon has also been attributed to Fi.
- In Twilight Princess, the notion that Fi chooses each hero who wields the blade is given merit, as Midna comments that "the sword accepted [Link] as its master", referencing the manner in which Fi addressed Link in Skyward Sword.[15]
- In Breath of the Wild, the first game to be released after Skyward Sword, there are numerous references made to a voice or will that exists within the Master Sword.
- This voice, signified by Fi's signature chime, is able to communicate telepathically with Zelda, as chronicled in Link's memory of when he was nearly killed during the Great Calamity. Fi was the one to advise that Link be taken to the Shrine of Resurrection to recuperate and that Zelda keep Ganon contained until he was ready to face him.
- In the present day, Fi will also test Link's endurance should he try to reclaim the Master Sword from its pedestal, sapping his life energy and potentially killing him unless he possesses enough Heart Containers to endure the test.
- Fi's chiming is lastly heard upon full completion of the Trial of the Sword, sounding several times to signify Link's achievement in restoring the blade's true might.
