Twilit Fossil Stallord[1], more simply known as Stallord, is the final boss of the fourth dungeon of Twilight Princess, the Arbiter's Grounds.
Battle
Stage 1
Upon entering the boss chamber, Link can see a fossilized Stallord laying lifeless in the sand. Zant appears and, impressed by Link's success thus far but determined to end him, he summons the Twilight Scimitar and drives it into Stallord's skull, to which the boss awakens. The newly resurrected Stallord roars in dramatic fashion, and the fight begins.
In the first phase of the battle, Link must ride the Spinner along the railing that circles the arena and over the quicksand towards Stallord's spine to damage it with a spinner attack (A on Gamecube and B on Wii). When one segment is broken, Stallord will summon Staltroops to block Link's path and spikes that race Link along the railing. The Staltroops can be destroyed with a spinner attack. On the third segment, Staltroops spring up around Stallord's spine to protect it, which can be either maneuvered around or defeated.
Stallord's only real attack is shooting a toxic, reddish-brown gas from its mouth. The gravest threat to Link are the spikes on the railing because, while they are accompanied by a sound cue, they can be very fast, especially on the third round. Once three hits have landed, Stallord will fall and sink into the quicksand.
Stage 2
The sand in the room drains out, and Stallord's lifeless head is all that remains. In the center of the room, Link can use the spinner to activate a mechanism that will raise the center platform. Curiously, there are rails coiling around it. As Link looks towards the door, Stallord's head awakens behind him and knocks him all the way to the bottom.
Link must use the spinner to scale the center platform. Once he is almost at the top, Stallord's skull will appear and shoot fireballs his way, which have to be avoided by leaping across to the railing on the outer wall. After shooting four fireballs, Stallord will grow impatient and try to get closer, which is when Link can leap straight into him with the spinner and knock him to the ground. This leaves Stallord vulnerable to Link striking its weak point: the twilight scimitar on its forehead.[2][3][4][5]
On the second round, the same spikes from earlier in the fight make a return. Aside from having to avoid the spikes by jumping across the gap, the rest is the same. It is possible to deal enough damage to end the fight here.
The third round adds spikes to the other wall, which need to be avoided similarly. Once enough damage is dealt, Stallord's head will float to the top of the arena and fall dramatically. The twilight scimitar will be flung to the ground before Link, and it will burst into a Heart Container, allowing the Hero to collect it and venture forth to the Mirror Chamber to see the Mirror of Twilight.
