The Sage's Medallions are a set of key items that appear in Ocarina of Time.
Overview
The Sages' Medallions are physical tokens that symbolize the awakening and power of their respective Sage, as well as their bond to the Hero of Time. Each one is a large, metal token with the corresponding color and symbol of their Sage, and the Triforce emblazoned on the back. In Ocarina of Time 3D, the Medallions' designs have been updated, to feature an ancient pattern around the rim of the Medallion.
The Sages' Medallions serve as the key items of the adult era, with each one being rewarded to Link after he has completed one of the Temples around Hyrule and awakened the respective Sage. Once Link has obtained all six Medallions, the Sages will allow Link to enter Ganon's Castle by creating a bridge over the moat.
Light Medallion
"You received the Light Medallion! Rauru the Sage adds his power to yours!"
The Light Medallion is the first of the six Medallions. It is yellow, with a symbol of three triangles pointing towards the center and three circles between them. It is given to Link by Rauru after he has pulled the Master Sword from the Pedestal of Time,[1] and awakened as the Hero of Time.[2][3][4]
Forest Medallion
"You received the Forest Medallion! Saria awakens as a Sage and adds her power to yours!"
The Forest Medallion is the second of the six Medallions. It is green, with a symbol of four crescents in a spiral formation. Link receives the Medallion from Saria, after he has completed the Forest Temple and removed the monsters plaguing Kokiri Forest.[5][6]
Fire Medallion
"You received the Fire Medallion! Darunia awakens as a Sage and adds his power to yours!"
The Fire Medallion is the third of the six Medallions. It is red, with a large flame symbol. Link receives the Medallion from Darunia, after he has completed the Fire Temple and saved the Gorons from being fed to Volvagia.[7][8]
Water Medallion
"You received the Water Medallion! Ruto awakens as a Sage and adds her power to yours!"
The Water Medallion is the fourth of the six Medallions. It is blue, with a symbol of six small ovals in a snowflake formation. Link receives the Medallion from Ruto, after he has completed the Water Temple and allowed the ice around Lake Hylia to begin thawing.[9][10][11][12][13]
Shadow Medallion
"You received the Shadow Medallion! Impa awakens as a Sage and adds her power to yours!"
The Shadow Medallion is the fifth of the six Medallions. It is purple, with a symbol of an upside-down triangle surrounded by three spheres. Link receives the Medallion from Impa, after he has completed the Shadow Temple and sealed Bongo Bongo away once again.[14][15]
Spirit Medallion
"You received the Spirit Medallion! Nabooru awakens as a Sage and adds her power to yours!"
The Spirit Medallion is the final of the six Medallions. It is orange, with a symbol of two meteors orbiting one another. Link receives the Medallion from Nabooru after he has completed the Spirit Temple and saved her from Twinrova.[16][17]
Trivia
- Originally in development, the Sages' Medallions could have been equipped and used as regular items; for example, the Forest Medallion was originally named the Wind Medallion, and would have functioned similarly to Farore's Wind.
- The Forest Medallion's symbol resembles that of the Bombos Medallion from A Link to the Past. In Ocarina of Time 3D, the appearance is altered to have three crescents instead of four, likely to avoid resemblance to a swastika.
- The Spirit Medallion's symbol is based on the astrological sign of Cancer, or the Yin and yang symbol.
- The emblems of the Sages' Medallions appear around the Arbiter's Grounds in Twilight Princess, and in the ceiling of the Sealed Temple in Skyward Sword, after the Statue of the Goddess has returned to the Surface.

- ↑ "Link... Wake up... Link, the chosen one..." — Rauru, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "I am Rauru, one of the ancient Sages... Ages ago, we ancient Sages built the Temple of Time to protect the entrance to the Sacred Realm... This is the Chamber of Sages, inside the Temple of Light... The Temple of Light, situated in the very center of the Sacred Realm, is the last stronghold against Ganondorf's evil forces. The Master Sword--the evil- destroying sword that you pulled out of the Pedestal of Time--was the final key to the Sacred Realm. Link... Don't be alarmed... Look at yourself...!" — Rauru, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "The Master Sword is a sacred blade which evil ones may never touch.... Only one worthy of the title of "Hero of Time" can pull it from the Pedestal of Time.... However, you were too young to be the Hero of Time.... Therefore, your spirit was sealed here for seven years. And now that you are old enough, the time has come for you to awaken as the Hero of Time! Well, do you understand your destiny? Yes No" — Rauru, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "But, remember... Though you opened the Door of Time in the name of peace... Ganondorf, the Gerudo King of Thieves, used it to enter this forbidden Sacred Realm! He obtained the Triforce from the Temple of Light, and with its power, he became the King of Evil... His evil power radiated from the temples of Hyrule, and in seven short years, it transformed Hyrule into a world of monsters. My power now has only little influence, even in this Sacred Realm... Namely, this Chamber of Sages. But there is still hope... The power of the Sages remains. When the power of all the Sages is awakened... The Sages' Seals will contain all the evil power in the void of the Realm... I, Rauru, am one of the Sages... And... Your power to fight together with the Sages makes you the Hero of Time! The Hero of Time, chosen by the Master Sword! Keep my spirit with you... And, find the power of the other Sages and add their might to your own!" — Rauru, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "I always believed that you would come. Because I know you... No... You don't have to explain it to me... Because it is destiny that you and I can't live in the same world." — Saria, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "I will stay here as the Forest Sage and help you... Now, please take this Medallion..." — Saria, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ " By the way, I, the wild Darunia, turned out to be the great Sage of Fire... Isn't that funny, Brother? Well, this must be what they call destiny. Nothing has made me happier than helping you seal the evil here!" — Darunia, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "Hey, Brother, take this! This is a Medallion that contains the power of the fire spirits--and my friendship." — Darunia, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "Link... I would have expected no less from the man I chose to be my husband. Zora's Domain and its people will eventually return to their original state." — Ruto, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "As a reward... I grant my eternal love to you. Well, that's what I want to say, but I don't think I can offer that now." — Ruto, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "I have to guard the Water Temple as the Sage of Water... And you... You're searching for the princess, Zelda? Hah! You can't hide anything from me!" — Ruto, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "Princess Zelda... She's alive. I can sense it...so don't be discouraged." — Ruto, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "I can tell that nothing will stop you in your quest for justice and peace... You must take this Medallion... Take it respectfully!" — Ruto, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "We Sheikah have served the royalty of Hyrule from generation to generation as attendants. However... On that day seven years ago, Ganondorf suddenly attacked... and Hyrule Castle surrendered after a short time. Ganondorf's target was one of the keys to the Sacred Realm...the hidden treasure of the Royal Family...The Ocarina of Time! My duty bound me to take Zelda out of Ganondorf's reach. When last I saw you, as we made our escape from the castle, you were just a lad... Now I see that you have become a fine hero..." — Impa, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "I have to stay here... You go to Princess Zelda's side and protect her on my behalf. Now I put my power, which should be helpful to you, into this Medallion!" — Impa, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "By the way... I really messed up... I was brainwashed by those old witches and used by Ganondorf to do his evil will... But isn't it funny? That a person like me could turn out to be the Sage of Spirit! And now, I'm going to fight them as one of the six Sages! Heh heh... I'm going to pay them back for what they did to me!" — Nabooru, Ocarina of Time.
- ↑ "Kid... No... Link, the Hero of Time! Instead of keeping the promise I made back then, I give you this Medallion! Take it!" — Nabooru, Ocarina of Time.
