Meat, also known as the Enemy Bait or simply Food, is an item from The Legend of Zelda, Echoes of Wisdom and BS The Legend of Zelda.

The Legend of Zelda

The Food can be bought in Item Shops run by Merchants, which are found around Hyrule, at the price of 60 or 100 Rupees depending on the shop. It has two uses, only one of which is required to complete the game.

Goriya

Main article: Goriya

The Food's primary use is to feed a hungry Goriya that will not move to let Link through in Level 7: The Demon. He simply stands there and grumbles at Link.[2] By feeding the Goriya the Food, it gets out of Link's way, allowing him to continue further into the dungeon.

Distracting Enemies

Link can use the Food to distract enemies. By placing it down on a screen full of enemies, they are all distracted by the Food,[1] and immediately forget about Link and go to the Food. Link can then use this opportunity to either run away to the next screen or use it as an easy chance to defeat all the enemies. The choice is up to Link. This is a completely optional use of dealing with enemies, but is quite effective and not a waste because the food can be used until it is given to the hungry Goriya.

Echoes of Wisdom

In Echoes of Wisdom, Zelda can find meat cooking in houses and can learn a Meat Echo. Zelda can then use the echo to summon meat when near monster camps. This causes enemies to be distracted and she can sneak around them.

Non-Canon Appearances

This section describes a subject that is or may be outside the core Zelda canon.

BS The Legend of Zelda

The Food works just as it did in The Legend of Zelda. The hungry Goriya is in Level 5 of MAP1 and Level 5 of MAP2, and again must be fed for the hero to pass through.

During time-related events, when an Old Man casts a spell on shopkeepers - between 20 and 28 minutes on the clock in Week 2, and between 10 and 20 minutes in Week 4 - the Food can be bought for half-price.
