Damaging enemies from above

The Down Thrust, or Downward Thrust, is a sword technique featured in The Adventure of Link and The Minish Cap whereby Link can attack enemies from above.

The Adventure of Link

In The Adventure of Link, Link can learn the downward thrust in the Harbor Town of Mido by casting the Jump Spell to reach the top of the bell tower. Once inside, Link is taught the technique by the knight that resides there.

It can be performed by jumping and then holding the down button. Link must learn the Downward Thrust to complete the game as there are keys as in the Island Palace that cannot be reached without it.

This Four Swords section is a stub. You can help the Zelda Dungeon Wiki by expanding it.

Whenever any of the Links have the Roc's Cape, they can perform a down thrust.

The Minish Cap

In The Minish Cap, the Down Thrust is learned from Swiftblade in Hyrule Town after obtaining the Roc's Cape. It is performed by jumping with the Roc's Cape, then pressing the sword button. It is useful against many enemies.

Non-Canon Appearances

This section describes a subject that is or may be outside the core Zelda canon.

Cadence of Hyrule

"You got the Down Thrust ability! You don't need to assign it to a button. If you drop down onto an enemy, you can hop to another space or on top of another enemy!"

— In-game description

In Cadence of Hyrule, the Down Thrust is a technique required in order to cross the smaller river on Death Mountain and reach the Temple of Storms. It can be found in the Windmill Hut after waking the workers.

Super Mario Maker 2

In the Super Mario Bros. game style, when Mario is transformed into Link with the Master Sword power-up, he gains the ability to down thrust by pressing down while in the air. This acts similarly to ground pounding in the New Super Mario Bros. U and Super Mario 3D World styles.
