The Sacred Realm is the eternal resting place of the Triforce. After the three Golden Goddesses, Din, Nayru, and Farore, had finished creating Hyrule, they departed from their creation. The spot were the Goddesses descended became to be known as the Sacred Realm. At the center of this Golden Land there lay a sanctuary, namely, the Temple of Light. This is where the Triforce, the most powerful relic in all of Hyrule, was put to rest.

After the three Goddesses, Din, Nayru, and Farore, created Hyrule, they descended to the sky, and created a parallel universe, known as the Sacred Realm, or the Golden Land. At the center of the Sacred Realm, they made the Temple of Light. This is where the Goddesses left the earth, and at the point of their departure, remained three golden triangles, the Triforce. The Sacred Realm will reflect all who enter's hearts. If their heart is pure and true, the Golden Land would be paradise. If their heart is evil, the Triforce would break apart into three pieces, and the Sacred Realm would become polluted with the desires of that evil heart. However, if another heart were to enter the realm, and were to challenge and defeat the evil one, the Sacred Realm would be cleansed, and be the land it was once before.
If a good heart enters the Sacred Realm, the Golden Land would be a peaceful, serene, place of beauty, and peace. However, if one's heart that was evil entered the Sacred Realm, it would become a polluted Dark World, and evil would flood the lands. The only way to purge the Sacred Realm from evil, would be if one with a pure heart would have the courage to challenge the evil one. If defeated, the Golden Land would return to its prior state.

"In a realm beyond sight, the sky shines gold, not blue. There, the Triforce's might makes mortal dreams come true." -The Book of Mudora description.

The Sacred Realm is depicted as a Golden Land in this game. Rather than the sky being blue, the skies were gold, and shined down on all that was below. One day, a theif named Gannondorf accidentally found his way into the Sacred Realm. He and his men came across the Triforce, and in his lust for power, Gannondorf killed his men so that he could have complete control, and do as he wished. In that moment that Gannondorf laid his hand upon the golden relic, the Sacred Realm was twisted into a land of evil, and it slowly died. Gannondorf himself, was then turned into a beast, representing his heart. That beast was named Gannon. He waged a war against Hyurle that was fought against Hylian Knights and the Seven Wise Men. The wise men agreed to seal the entrance to the Golden Land, Gannon along with it. This legend became known as the Imprisoning War.

Gannon remained in the now polluted Sacred Realm for generations, breaking it down into a land of the complete opposite of Hyrule. The fields withered, the sky turned dreary, and hope quickly dwindled. He turned the Golden Land into the Dark World. Gannon's wicked, twisted wish was to break the lock between Hyrule and the Dark World.

A hero, Link, is sent into the Dark World by one of Gannon's minions, the dark wizard, Agahnim. It is from there Link learns of what Gannon did to the Sacred Realm, the home of the ancient relic, the Triforce, and he resolves to return the Golden Land to it's former beauty. After Link purges this land of immorality, and saves the Seven Maidens, the descendants of the Seven Wise Men, he faces off with the King of Evil, Gannon, at the Pyramid of Power. Ensuing Gannon's defeat,  Link comes in the presence of what is known as, the Essence of the Triforce. Link revives the Triforce by his heart, and wish of purity. Finally, the Sacred Realm is once again the Golden Land.

This game tells of a man named Ganondorf, who one day stumbled upon the gates to the Sacred Realm. He located the Triforce, and in his lust for power, he murdered his men so that he might have full control over the golden triangles. Ganondorf's wishes came true, and the evil in his heart plagued the Golden Land, corrupting the once sacred place of refuge. Ganondorf's wicked heart soon consumed him, and he turned into a dark, powerful beast, a beast named Ganon. The power he now controlled was not enough, he quickly waged a war against Hyrule, killing relentlessly, blinded by his longing for ultimate control.

The forces he fought against in the Imprisoning War, the Seven Wise Men, and hundreds of brave Knights of Hyrule, came to the conclusion to lock Ganon away in the now Evil Realm. Though many battles were still yet to come. Ganon planned for centuries to make his return. He continued to send the Sacred Realm into complete ruin, until it was then called the Dark World. His desire, his wish, was to break the long held seal between the Dark World, and Hyrule.

It was then, that Link, was awakened with a task. After collecting the three Pendants, and gaining possession of the Master Sword, he fought the Dark Wizard Agahnim, one of Ganon's pesky follower's who served him from the Light World. Agahnim sent Link into the Dark World, believing to have trapped him there, but it was from there that Link gained knowledge of Ganon, and what he had done to the Sacred Realm, and it was from there that he learned he had the power to reverse these effects.

The Sacred Realm is next seen in Ocarina of Time, and it is said to have taken place several centuries before A Link to the Past. At the time, the only entrance to the Sacred Realm was the Door of Time, a gateway in the Temple of Time, that only authorized the one with the three Spiritual Stones, and the Ocarina of Time to enter.
Ensuing the rescue of the Seven Maidens, Link battled against the Prince of Darkness, and Thieves, Ganon. When Link finally killed the beast, the restoration of the Sacred Realm began. Link retrieved the Triforce, and his wish cleansed the Golden Land to what it had once been.

The story starts out with a tale told to Link by the Great Deku Tree. He tells Link of the goddesses, the Triforce, and a man who cursed him in order to steal the Kokiri's Emerald, the first Spiritual Stone Link gains possession of. He describes the Sacred Realm as a place of serene beauty, and power. When he is finished, he requests Link travel to Hyrule Castle to meet with the Princess of Destiny, Zelda. There, Zelda tells Link of a man named Gannondorf, and that she had a vision of his immorality, and a boy with a fairy coming to the rescue. Link and Zelda then decide that it is their duty to collect all three Spiritual Stones, and get to the Sacred Realm before Gannondorf.

When Link finally acquires the three Spiritual Stones, and the Ocarina of Time, he journeys to the Temple of Time and opens the seal, the link between the two worlds, the Door of Time. He pulls the Master Sword from the Pedestal of Time, and  Link is put to sleep for seven years because he was too young to be the Hero of Time. While Link is asleep, Gannondorf gains access to the Sacred Realm, taking power of the Triforce, and sending Hyrule into mortal terror. After Link awakens seven years older, he is greeted by the Light Sage Rauru, and is informed of all Gannondorf's wicked deeds. Link is then tasked with the job to awaken the missing Sages, in order to seal Gannondorf away in the Sacred Realm, and return Hyrule to it's once peaceful state.
