The Second Quest, or New Game Plus, is the second playthrough of a particular save file in The Legend of Zelda series games, normally with particular changes from the first playthrough.
The Legend of Zelda
The Second Quest is an altered version of the First Quest of The Legend of Zelda featuring a similar map to the original Hyrule with swapped locations of various items, caverns, upgraded enemies, altered dungeons, and other events. The dungeon locations themselves are also changed, further promoting new exploration.
Generally, the First Quest needs to be finished to unlock the Second Quest. However, a cheat exists - if "ZELDA" is entered as the player's name when starting the game, the Second Quest is started instead, which eliminates the need to complete the First Quest to unlock it.
The Adventure of Link
In The Adventure of Link, the game remains identical in the second playthrough, but Link begins the quest with the same life, magic, and attack levels he ended the first playthrough with, as well as all of the spells. Heart Containers, Magic Containers, and items in Link's inventory such as the Candle and Cross must be recollected.
The Wind Waker
In The Wind Waker, Link begins the game like normal, though he receives the Hero's New Clothes rather than Hero's Clothes, and so stays in his blue and orange island outfit throughout the entire game. Only when the game comes to an end and Link deals the final blow to Ganondorf can the Hero's Clothes be seen as they were in the original playthrough. Aryll starts with her skull dress from the end of the game.
Link starts with the Deluxe Picto Box and the Nintendo Gallery remains in its previous completion. All characters that spoke Hylian are translated, such as Valoo, Great Deku Tree, and Jabun. The save file can be named anew. Finally, the locations of treasure from Treasure Charts are farther away from the islands.
