Business Scrubs are recurring enemies in The Legend of Zelda series. They attack anybody that approaches them by spitting out a Deku Nut. It is a tendency they have and usually do not mean any harm. However, if Link deflects the nut back on to them, or defeat them in any other way, this causes them to attempt to do business with or offer advice to Link. They tend to offer items such as Deku Sticks, Arrows, Bombs, Potions, charging a little bit more than a local stores would.
Ocarina of Time
Business Scrub... |
Business Scrubs are found in dungeons and caves, where they sell Link a variety of items which are usually found at stores, but at higher prices. In Hyrule Field, just outside of Lake Hylia, a business scrub will sell Link a Piece of Heart. The only way to purchase items from Business Scrubs is to first deflect their Deku Nuts back at them with Link's shield, shoot a Deku Seed or Arrow at them, or hit them with the Boomerang.
Majora's Mask
Majora's Mask is the only game in which Business Scrubs do not appear as enemies in any capacity. Business Scrubs who are part of the Business Scrub Association are initially found in their Deku Flowers, but will move in return for a specific trading sequence item, mostly Title Deeds:
- In South Clock Town, near the door to West Clock Town, the Business Scrub has nothing left to sell. They will trade their Town Land Title Deed to Link in any form for his Moon's Tear. This is required to complete the game, as their Deku Flower is required to access Clock Tower as Deku Link at the end of the first cycle, along with the Piece of Heart there.
- In Southern Swamp, on the platform of the Swamp Tourist Center. They sell Magic Beans, to Deku Scrubs only, for 10 rupees. They will trade their Swamp Title Deed to Link in any form other than Deku Link for a Town Title Deed. Their Deku Flower is required to access the Piece of Heart on the Swamp Tourist Center roof.
- In Goron Village, to the south of the Goron Shrine. They sell a Biggest Bomb Bag, to Gorons only, for 200 rupees & a Big Bomb Bag (or 1000 rupees). They will trade their Mountain Title Deed to Deku Link (only) for his Swamp Title Deed. Their Deku Flower is required to access a Piece of Heart on a ledge in the mountain wall.
- In Zora Hall, inside Lulu's room(!). They sell Green Potion, to Zoras only, for 40 rupees. They will trade their Ocean Title Deed to Goron Link (only) for his Mountain Title Deed. Their Deku Flower is required to access a Piece of Heart on a ledge in the room.
- In Ikana Canyon, on the south of the lower cliff beside the river, and to the east of the high cliff. They will sell a Blue Potion to any non-Zora form of Link for 100 rupees. Will trade a Huge Rupee to Zora Link for an Ocean Title Deed. Their Deku Flower is required to access Piece of Heart on a ledge on the north-eastern side of the bend in the river.
Once moved to a new location for the rest of the three-day cycle, the scrubs will continue selling the same items, but will sell to Link in any form without limitation.
There is one additional Business Scrub not part of the trading sequence - if Link looks through the Astral Observatory telescope to the left of Clock Town, a Scrub will fly over Termina Field, and if Link continues to watch them, they will enter a grotto. Upon entering the grotto later in the same cycle, they will sell a Piece of Heart to Link for his silence; initially offering it for 150 rupees, but if Link refuses the first offer, they cut the price to 100 rupees. Whether Link declines again, or buys it for 100 rupees, the Scrub then leaves with his goods. Visiting the Grotto, again with the Scrub present, in a later cycle will cause him to go "Oh, you..." and then fly off again.
Oracle of Seasons
In Oracle of Seasons, there are two variations of Business Scrubs. One type are identical to their Oracle of Ages counterparts and immediately offers to sell Link various goods. However, there are some Business Scrubs that are similar to their Ocarina of Time variations, where Link first needs to defeat the enemy. Link can use a shield to deflect a rock back at the Business Scrub, stunning it in the process. The Business Scrub then pleads for his life and offers to sell items to Link.
Oracle of Ages
Business Scrubs appear in various places throughout Labrynna. At first glance, a Business Scrub appears as a normal bush until Link approaches it. They then pop out of the ground and offer to sell Link different items that are usually way overpriced compared to finding the item in a chest, bush, or simply purchasing it from a store. Dr. Troy of Lynna City refers to these characters as Business Scrubs.
The Minish Cap
Business Scrubs are found throughout the overworld regions of The Minish Cap and it is the very first enemy encountered in the game. Link can use the Small Shield to deflect the nut back towards the Business Scrub to defeat him. After Link defeats them, they offer him their wares. Some Business Scrubs sell Link important items like the Grip Ring, which is needed for climbing up rocky walls.
Link is able to fuse Kinstones with all the Business Scrubs that he encounters. The Business Scrub in Castor Wilds fuses a Blue Kinstone with Link, which causes thorns to be removed that are covering a tree in the Minish Woods. This leads Link to finding another Business Scrub who sells expensive Kinstones.
All the other Kinstone Fusions are Green Kinstone fusions with the rest of the Business Scrubs. However, there is one random Red Kinstone and a random Blue Kinstone fusion that Link can fuse with almost any character, including the Business Scrubs.

Appears in caves, etc. Normally stay underground. They'll pop out and spit seeds at you, but if you get to know 'em, they're not so bad. |
