Story Mode

Spoiler Alert! This section describes a subject that is sensitive to plot development.

In Story Mode, Octavo used the Golden Lute used to put Link, Zelda, and the rest of Hyrule to sleep. After collecting all four instruments and navigating Hyrule Castle, Link and his friends confront Octavo, who uses the instruments and the Golden Lute itself as his weapons. After the player defeats Octavo, a portal appears, sucking in the Golden Lute (judging by the fact that the portal bears a strong resemblance to the portal to Future World, it is reasonable to assume Ganon stole the lute). The Golden Lute is never seen again in this mode. Afterwards, Octavo runs off to confront Ganon without his lute, and falls in battle, leaving the bearers of the Triforce to vanquish Ganon once and for all.

Octavo's Story

The Golden Lute is both an item and a weapon. As an item, it does the same thing as the Lute. As a weapon, however, it attacks enemies in front and to either side of Octavo, dealing one point of damage per hit.
